2013 Mt. Keira Challenge Cancelled

In a major piece of disappointing news, Wollongong City Council has closed Mt. Keira Rd for repairs due to concerns over public safety. The road is in danger of slipping off the edge of the mountain, and the cliff face above the road also needs to be stabilised in order to prevent rock falls. The required road works will not be completed in time for the 2013 Mt. Keira Challenge, and…

New Future for Downhill Skateboarding

Welcome to the new future of downhill skateboarding. Over the last five years ASRA has run both World Cup and World Championship downhill events under the banner of the IGSA. While we have had many successes in this relationship we have also had many struggles in the way we believe the international scene should be headed.

At this time and with the growth in our sport, ASRA needs to affiliate with a group that is more closely aligned with the democratic and…

Kritical Mass 2012

Skateboarding has been getting a bad wrap for generations, seen as a group of law breaking, jobless youths with nothing better to do except piss off locals and cause trouble.

As the sport has grown, developed and longboarding…

That Race 2012

The morning started slowly. I jumped out of bed late as per usual. Cruised down the coast a little to pick up my 10 hay bales from where they had been stored for the past week.

I then proceeded back home to grab the rest of the supplies and most of all my skateboard.

As the day proceeded I was greeted with many of small speed bumps that would affect the way the day was to run. First of many...phone calls from grommets asking where everyone is and can they…

PC's birthday Shredabration

Everyone getting keen for the Gnarpark - Photo Lisa Oxley

My dad, PC has been skating for over 30 years and has given out so much stoke to the skate community, so my sister Astrid and I decided we needed to give that stoke and love for skateboarding all back to my dad PC for his 50th birthday. We organised 2 events for everyone to celebrate his birthday. A carpark race and a Hybrid Slalom and we got the raddest Aussie companies…

GAME TIME

Last Monday, in the early hours of the morning grommets and top riders from as far as Goldie down to Canberra converged on Clifton Gardens, Sydney, for a short but tech race, starting up in suburbia the track winds and dives down 2 hairpins and few sweepers ending next to the beach. With perfect weather and heaps of volunteers the racing began early and finished before 12 with a everyone stoked-out and riding better and…

Geelongboard race

By Lewis Dowie

I arrived at the race site early, hoping to get a few practice runs in before all the good skaters showed up. I quickly changed my mind after having worms flicked up into my face while but-boarding down the wet bitumen path, not to mention splashing through the steady stream of water that was flowing through the ditch at the bottom of the hill. The conditions definitely weren’t ideal. Despite the rain and the worms, people started flowing down…

Perth 2012 Slide Jam!

About four months ago, Daniel Wilczek flew in from America to undertake a semester of studying at a Perth university. He saw my video I posted of a Slide Jam I had co-organised back in January, and thought that he we could join forces and do a second, but this time, bigger!

From there we set to contacting sponsors and getting the word out. It was not long before we had got sponsorship approval from several large American and Canadian longboarding companies, and had…

Sunshine State Gnar

Josh E, Zane and I (Matthys) arrived at the hill the day before the race at sunset. We drove up and instantly looked in the back of the van to see if we had remembered the broom. The hill was pretty much covered in gravel. The construction sites on the hill had left marble sized rocks over all the corners. After about 3 hours of…

Chapter Two: Living in Bathurst Ain't Easy

Robdog the puppet master. Image: Stine Baska

“Livin in Bathurst ain’t easy, the women are kinda greasy” was kind of the working slave tune Hendo and myself were singing as we laid out the haybails early Wednesday morning. Fresh from one night's rest in "Hotel el Robbo” - now housing about 12…

Bowl-a-Rama 2012

Nicky Guerrero (photo: Dave Pang)

I went to one of the best events of the year yesterday - BOWL-A-RAMA 2012, the annual bowl-riding competition at Bondi beach. It doesn't get much better than this, sunny n hot, the beach and crystal blue ocean on one side, the bowl and some ridiculously good skating on the other side. Either way you look, life's freakin great.

I love going to the BOWL-A-RAMA. It's a good opportunity to…

Erina Slide Jam

Macca Pettersson ripping up as usual

Stoke level was high as we awoke to a sunny Sunday, perfect conditions for the Erina Slide Jam. Organised by Nick Mitchell, the day was a great success with a turnout of roughly 40 skaters from Sydney, Kariong and other local areas. The day began at 10am at Flakelar spot. Although hot, the…
