Slalom events and rankings update

Hi everyone, just a quick update on Slalom skateboarding in Australia. Bernie Griffiths has stepped down from his ISSA role as Senior Steward for Australian Slalom and I have taken on this role. First up a huge thanks to Bernie who has run the slalom rankings for many years now, for your efforts over that time, we would not have a National Ranking for more than the last decade without Bernie.

Dan Monaghan and Imi…

National Capital Slalom Championships wrap up

Jonny 'Primate' McGrath and Ryan 'Pickles' Nicholls. Pic by Dave Pang.

The Saturday started off as usual at the best little slalom racing weekend in existence, with a glorious day at Stromlo Forest Park, our awesome venue. We race on the Stephen Hodge Criterium Circuit which is normally reserved for bicycle racing. The course was a fairly loose 50 cones, with offset and a ‘gimme’ section that was really tricky. The…

The 2010 Australian Slalom Series kicked off on the weekend with a double-header, with B-Rad Pearson dominating in the ditch, and Haggy Strom returning from the wilderness to take out the head-to-head slalom. B-Rad and Nathan Paff share the overall lead on a crowded list, with only two points separating the top four.

Pump Station Delivers

Jackson Shapiera survived a challenge from UK slalom ace Paul Price to register his fifth win from seven races to cap a dominant year in the 2009 Conehead Cup. Price came second just 0.3 second behind, pushing Nathan Paff into third place by only 0.1 second.

The final race of the 2009 Conehead Cup lacked the drama of the 2008 final. Last year was a shootout between Jackson Shapiera and Steve Daddow, but this year the top two had been decided in advance, with Jackson… Click here for the full story

Jackson Clinches Conehead Cup '09

Jackson Shapiera dominated the Canberra leg of the Conehead Cup with wins in both the Stromlo dual-slalom and the Ainslie Ditch. Rival Steve Daddow had a tough weekend with two fourth places and two bad slams, while B-rad Pearson finally put his all-round skating ability into effect with a sixth placing at Stromlo and a second at Ainslie.

With four wins and two second places in his six races, Jackson has built an unassailable lead in this years points race. Wih just one… Click here for the full story

Daddow Strikes Back

Steve Daddow won his first Conehead Cup race of 2009, remaining undefeated throughout the day and striking back at his main rival Jackson Shapiera who had to settle for second. Nathan Paff took third by edging out Haggy Strom by 0.03 of a second.

This was Melbourne's first time hosting the Conehead Cup, and the classic Melbourne winter weather; cold, wet and windy, was appreciated by all. The morning produced loads of frustration; the racers were unable to practice… Click here for the full story

No Bastardry, Plenty of Beatings

The cream of Australia's downhill skateboard and luge riders gathered in the tropical heat of Townsville for a weekend of thrashing themselves on the steep and winding Mt Stuart road, located on the edge of town.

For the most part there was no competition; this was a charity freeride to raise money for prostate cancer; the "bastard" that has to be beaten.

And beatings were the order of the weekend as all riders took some hits on a road that challenged everybody.… Click here for the full story

Ramón and Jackson Share Round 1

Jackson Shapiera and Ramón Königshausen shared the honours in the first Conehead Cup of 2009, with Jackson winning the ditch and Ramón getting his revenge in the head-to-head slalom.

Kincumber ditch is notorious for being wet at just the hint of rain, yet was miraculously dry on Saturday after a solid week's rain. A field of 23 riders took on the challenge, with Switzerland's Ramón Königshausen setting the early pace by using a slalom board and slalom-style pump to… Click here for the full story

Conehead Cup 2008, Round 1, NACCOSS

Round 1 of the 2008 Conehead Cup was all about the weather. Saturday's ditch race was cancelled/postponed because of water in the ditch, so instead the racers congregated at the Sidonia Garden, the site of Sunday's race, for an extended practice session. Occasional drizzle meant frequent periods where everybody waited until the course dried before resuming tweaking technique and gear.

Awaking on Sunday to grey skies and drizzle, it seemed…
