ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Team Selection for World Skate Games Slalom Team

The World Skate Games in Argentina later this year (Oct 24 - Nov 13 ) is expected to include for the  first time Skateboard Slalom Racing. The upcoming Slalom Championships to be held in Canberra on  the 12th – 14th of March 2022, will be a pivotal event for Australian team selection, and will be run in  line with ISSA rules.

We understand that if the World Skate Games includes a slalom program, it is expected to include;  tight head to head, hybrid and giant slalom, in Buenos Aires and San Juan.

The qualification for World Skate Games is more formal than what we are used to in the slalom  community.

We understand that there will be two classes: Men and Women, and no age classes. There will be three ways to qualify for these classes:

  1. a) The top 20 racers (20 men, 20 women) from the current world ranking.
  2. b) Each national association can select and register 3 men and 3 women, in addition to the top 20. c) Persons in countries with no national association can also participate.

That means Australia can send 3 male and 3 female competitors to compete in the Slalom Racing  program, plus any Australian in the top 20 of the ISSA rankings.

(see announcement on http://www.slalomskateboarder.com

See http://www.skateboardracing.org.au/events/capital-punishment-austra... championships-2022 for event info and links to the ISSA rules.

Once confirmed, ASRA will provide technical advice on slalom to Skate Australia, the recognised  National Sporting Organisation for skateboarding and skate sports in Australia.

That advice will include ratification of skateboard racing rules, race sanctioning criteria, and  providing guidance on identifying appropriate candidates who will be able to represent Australia in  World Skate events.

Competitors should note that if selected, all costs to attend World Skate Games are paid by  individual skaters as government funding is not available to support this competition.

Note that all racers are expected to have read and understood the ISSA rules.
