As much as I hate insurance companies, Id be prepared to pay for insurance if it meant a ticket to ride.
Doesnt seem fair though if cyclists dont need it.
We should get more stats together as ammo in any case. I like the info youve just laid on us Phil.

It shits me to tears hearing how they're cracking down on skateboarding when in the last 3 weeks there have been 2 fatalities in skiing. Not to mention the endless list of P-plater deaths on the roads year after year.
This is simply a case of narrow minded beaurocrats stereotyping our sport in a bid to win votes with the oldies who now make up the majority of voters.
Sorry all you baby boomers out there who skate.

i remember getting travel insurance that covered me for skating, but i doubt you could get specific insurance/ third party etc unless it was legalised ,

This is just bullshit how many people die skating each year next to none how many people die each year driving in to the thousands is skating the real thing the government should be focusing on or is it cars. They are getting there stats from people who go to hospital because they fall of and maybe need stitches or hair line fracture a bone not people who get hit by cars and die. Almost every accident on our roads cause serious injury's or death. Now what should the government attempt to act big on and change things that don't help anyone except in theory they do.

I think some of the money should go to ASRA .
Skate fast and safe then get out...
Have a comp to see who get's the most fines and give that man a prize !
And the councils will have to give a fart and help with events like freerides!

Yep, all a bit crazy and bloody annoying. The whole injury thing on the Gold Coast is just such a wind up!! at an appropriate point it would be great to bring up the fact that every year on the Goldy we are blessed by stupid dumb tourists taking themselves out of the gene pool by being drowned (mostly due to their own stupidity including no beach sense) Though they no longer breed they actually cost the council a bloody fortune. search and rescue, police, morgue etc etc etc. The difference, well before they get themselves killed they spend money here and then looking after the body and having it shipped around is good for the local economy.......we so need a structured body that can actually spend time lobbying to get all this sorted out and make those politicians we vote in realise that lots of little things that don't actually cost money can create harmony and more votes for them!

This is the stupidest piece of crap to come out of Qld's cabinet......
For those who aren't up with the latest policies, here is a statement from the "Honorable" Rachel Nolan:
Skateboards, roller-blades and foot scooters will be banned from Queensland roads after dark.
In an effort to further improve safety on Queensland roads, the State Government will ban riders of wheeled recreation devices from riding at night or on a road with a speed limit greater than 50km/h at any time.
“Road safety affects every road user, not just motorists,”
“Skateboards and scooters are hard to see at the best of times but at night they can become almost invisible to motorists.
“And invisible doesn’t mean invulnerable – exactly the opposite.”
Rachel Nolan said unlike bicycles that could be fitted with lights and reflective gear, people riding skateboards and foot scooters after dark were significantly harder for motorists to see.
The new road rules will come into effect from October as part of a national standardisation of road rules.
Ms Nolan said it wasn’t about restricting use of skateboards and foot scooters but making sure they were used safely.
“I’m not anti-fun, I’m pro-safety,” Ms Nolan said.
“The new rules restrict the riding of roller blades, skateboards, and motorised foot scooters, to suburban streets during the day, when there is better visibility, and less risk of a collision with a vehicle.
“But this is just as much about common courtesy as it is about common sense.
“These riders need to look out for other people out walking or cycling on our roadways too.”
Under the new rules, these cannot be ridden:
on a main road (a road with a dividing line or median strip)
on a road with a speed limit over 50km/h
on a road at night
where there is a sign prohibiting their use.
Breaking any of these rules can result in a $40 fine.
I have a question Ms. Nolan...... Are you simple???
How many people travel using " Wheeled recreation" as transport?
How many people actually die a year from skating at night?
And the most important question....What are we going to do about it? what are our opinions on the crap???

i think the actual problem is cars, get rid of cars then there will be less skating injuries and we may just reduce the obesity rate in australia

After reading this it is really pushing my paitence with police and government, they wont build us tracks to do this on yet they abuse us and make laws against our sport. Alot of the time its hard to skate during the day due to studdy/work commitments because we are good tax paying citizens who chose to use skateboards as a green form of transport and to express ourselves in a productive way as opposed to taking drugs or vandalising public property. This set of laws targets longboarding yet we do nothing to destroy the terrain we skate we help maintain alot of it, alot less can be said for street skaters who grind up marble and damage alot of what they skate they have plaza style parks built for them yet they still dont use them, The government is making a sport illeagle through these laws and the lack of ability to provide facilities for us to train on.
In terms of action i would say a national protest day where by you get all the skateboarders in your city to ride from some where in the city to the town hall in protest of the laws.
