ahh i gave up trying to keep up with this conversation, understood small parts (the clash, sex pistols, national service and a few other bits) but lost other then that
oh well, i will have to do a lot of googleing (<----- is that a word?) to catch up haha

nice one, mate. Have no idea what the link was but there was a link for me between stiff little fingers and bauhaus at the risk of a heated argument from someone over a guinness (wont be the first) I think it was an Irish connection.
Forget National Service (see google for those that are now confused) I believe all kids from the age of 11 - 15 should have music appreciation starting with Peter and the Wolf and finishing with The Streets, Lily Allen and Linkin Park, ensuring it takes in the vocal, drum, rhythm and lead hammering three chords that essentially is punk in. Hmmmm my anarchy has just turned into something nasty

Just as an add on, in the late 1990s I worked in Frindsbury Park, London and just round the corner was this derilict building that kinda looked familiar. After talking to my folks it transpired that the loud rock band I saw with my old man was actually the clash at the rainbow, and the rainbow was just round the corner from Rowans ten pin bowl. I saw the clash (I actually saw a lot of the floor as the place got ripped apart) in 77. My mum went ape and my old man never took me anywhere until England France rugby at Twickenham in 83. You dont mess with my mum

Aych!,... awesome post man,

Great times, great bands, great spots,....friggin awesome being in London in the time of the Sex Pistols, the Damned etc....
This is exactly the reason I wanted to start a group rather than a thread.
There are so many stories you guys have got,..... I love reading them,.... I love writing them too.

Bring it all on you guys,.... you can even talk about Spiderman Vs Batman in here,.... hahahahaaa
I wish you started that thread in here Pete. :D

oh, not sure now; hold on......em I think that's, no wait a minute.......bloody hell feel a bit like a museum (in 42 years I've never written this word I had to look it up) curator that is asked to let other see his change room locker as a history project....many of us here have a board in 1975? mine was a super flyer slalom polyurethene job with red hard spangle type wheels. Everyone had a chunk out of the nose thanks to various kerbs. I had some sessions at Southbank in London with the LSD (my mum took me as I couldn't be trusted to take the train on my own. (in the UK they were them years of the sex pistols the silver jubilee and throwing light bulbs and seats out of train windows) UK slalom was a bit messy back then as the films we saw were speeded up and no one realised so we just skated everything at full speed at around 5 foot centres. very very very good for elastoplast and witch hazzle (to get the gravel out of the grazes) damn, just remembered catamarangs, how much fun were they and you could always blame the other person for the stack; and did.
In the Uk it was all a bit sketchy and still is "oi, you lookin' at my girl? No! why not what's up with her, you want a take this outside?" oh a quiet pint on a Saturday night. There are a couple if not 3 ASRA members lurking quietly that could shed some light on the "retro" years a lot of Essex boys always wanted to be part of London (pauses and waits patiently for the bite............) It was after the great European competition at the Trocederro in Paris that I skated in France BUT BLOODY HELL did that competition sort some stuff out. If you've seen dogtown and z boys without taking anyting away from that part of our history the whole of Europe was looking at the English slalom scene and slowly shaking its head....the boys were jackass before camcorders, and not doing it for kicks but just because; well just because this is the way we do shit!
skated and still skate to sham 69, slits, boomtown rats, the damned, ian dury ("fucking ada" wot a friging rush download this and crank it up so far the filth have to be called to get it turned down and tell me it isn't any good ha ha ha ha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYCxUugjuMM), blondie, new york dolls, Fulham fallout and more stuff most people from WAY back then who have not already died of heroin have heard of.
That lot kind of just fell out.....perhaps one day I should have a brewski or 2 and see what I can remember of fateful tours on cross channel ferries skateboard under arm with legends such as Sweeney, Reynolds, Perry and Price; I was just a kid in the background but F@*k man! what a way to get where I am now....from council scum in the UK to sports therapist to Olympians..with a skateboard in the boot.............................. Feel fre to banish me from this group >;0)

While on youtube, copy the "embed code", and then paste it in here.

Actually I'm not a huge fan of the ice-skating inspired aspect, but I gotta admire a guy who does his own thing in the face of the entire rest of the skateboarding world.

Here's the last video, embedded:

Dan Gesmer's skating is polarising. On one side you have the homophobes who scream "gay!" and on the other side is everybody else.
