ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

I think its about time we organised some sort of VISIBLE event combining Slalom, 'Downhill' and some freerideing/sliding. I am really keen to get some sort of thing going as i think it could help grow the sport here and put out a positive image of skateboarding in general which is always a good thing. I am interested in what you guys think of the idea i would love to see an event like this and i think there are enough people who could compete to make it interesting and fill up a days racing.

one day will net be enough if you want to do all those events, cone head cup has slalom covered so I think that DH and slide would be enough to get people thinking about longboarding as a cool thing.
juniors section ftw! e.g-under 16 or something.. just putting it out there
In terms of the DH thats going to be involved its going to be very very very light as its gotta be visible so the younger guys wont have any problem racing against Juan, fendy and G, we are talking like fitzroy gardens light.

i like the idea of chirnside level DH but it is a bit too far out..
It would also be easier to race on a remote-ish hill like chirnside as opposed to fitzroy. That kind of defeats the visible criteria but it would still be sick.
Mate if we could find somewhere like that inside or with in 20mins of the city that we could use it would be great, that run would be a perfect 2-3 man run. Doing timed runs at Eadge water could work as its not a road, but that means no sliding unless we could get a permit for the the road next to it, Freeza Marybenong would be able to help us out with permits and promotion, our best bet it to get either the YMCA or Freeza onboard to help organise it as its easy for them to get permits for locations etc etc

a few days
sean, I suggest discussing this with maybe the moss crew. They could probably help you out with the event given they have more experience and probably better chances of getting the necessary approvals.

Also, I agree with stephen on location, somewhere like Chirnside (few cars, unmarked roads) would be an ideal place as opposed to busy streets in/near the city or any of the city gardens (it'll be much harder to get approval for inner city places and its a lot more dangerous too unless you can get it closed off). You could probably hold a slide event at eadgewater or fitzroy gardens but not dh you need longer roads for that

I wouldn't worry so much about getting the attention of the public. Work on getting a few small events going first, make sure it runs smoothly before you start to think big. A badly organized VISIBLE event could draw bad publicity to the sport.

That's just my two cents.
the location thing is only an issue if we are running an outlaw and we dont get a group like the YMCA involved
do it.....if u can!
You organise it. People will come.
We need an outlaw event at chirnside or soemthing similar. outlaw events wont draw any attention at such a remote location.
