DTC wheels

Saw these on the 'fish and was pretty interested. I'm pretty sure these and Grand Prix wheels are the only ones with alu cores. Theres also a little write up on his myspace that details how they wear throughout their lifetime. Definately one of the best looking wheels around. I also posted up a vid of the creator riding his wheels.

Oh and on a sidenote one guy was contemplating having these one a 313 cf drop-thru with maguns. Probably one of the sickest setups possible.

the say some interesting stuff...80mm and 78a....he seems to be selling the idea that they don't cone like a 'thane hub wheel because of the pressure distribution of having a larger core that isn't a plastic....

he also claims the best grip for a sub 6 month year old "racing" pedigree wheel...Vs. Big Zigs, blast waves, fly wheels etc...

my problem is that its a 80mm wheel with a 50mm core that has 40mm contact patch...correct me if i'm wrong...but a gumball has more contact than that....

hmm....if they are as good as he says...bring them on....but i'm not holding my breath...

and nicko, the Grombiz C11 wheel has a metal core too....getting bearings in and out can be a pain.

My last board (which got nicked) had wheels that had an alum center, they looked a lot like 5 slot mags. They were cheap, i recall but I cannot remember what they were called.

I exchanged emails with Alex earlier in the year about his wheels. He placed well in an IGSA race on them. When I spoke to him, the price and quantities were a bit wild for our market. Minimum quantity was 500 wheels, and we would have to sell them at $30 euros a pop, that is like $250+ aussie a set. And at that sell price, I'd be breaking even. The quantity, later came down to 100 wheels, but the price didn't. I am happy to be proven wrong, if 20 people post up saying they must have em at any price.

people are going to be getting mugged for their wheels. I picture a board on the footpath up on blocks with the wheels missing.

I based mine on the 90mm flywheel. Back then they were the bomb,
If i had the money, these wheels would have been produced here in aus 3 years ago.
I design this idea myself and had the means to produce the moulds here in aus aswell.
Exact same principle, turned aluminium core, moulded wheel. DTC just have more holes.
Metal cores make it very difficult to remove the bearings and the seat "swells" with time after repeated removal of bearing.

I think they only need the outer race in the middle to align the 2 halves. You could pop an old bearing to achieve this and only use 2 bearings per wheel.

Can you drop a metal hub into a production wheel.

The metal hub would have to be identicle in shape to the plastic core if you used the same mould, but it could be done.
The mould would have to be fully hardened where the hub would sit aswell otherwise it would wear out 10 times quicker compared to using plastic cores.
My dream was to get Tim Dawe from Coretec to pour specialised DH wheels but he's not even interested in doing his own SL76 wheels he invented.
It might be possible to go better on price but only on large quantites like 1000+.

I'm astounded DTC have gone with a full radiused lip on their wheel.

yeah, i don't get that either. how could they possibly be anywhere near as grippy as the popular bigzig shape.
