My brother had a nasty coming together with another board and has put a big chip in the side of his deck. I was wondering what type of glue to use to repair any other tips would help too Cheers Jamie

You could use regular pva glue and it would be a pretty solid repair, the only worry would be its water resistance. That could be solved by using some spray on enamel clear coat, and giving it a solid couple of coats.

If possible you can sometimes find a glue called Titebond 3 at veneer and specialist timber shops. It's what all the board builders use in America so its pretty legit.

It depends on your budget but any glue that is somewhat waterproof, or could be made waterproof, would do the trick. Especially seeing as the repair isn't structural at all.
epoxy resin

Word!
You beat me to it Robbo.
Thats the ultimate repair. You can use the resin as filler aswell. Not just to try and glue the old bits together. Once it's set you can just file and sand it all back smooth. You're prob gonna have to re-do the grip tape in that area. Run a knife straight across the deck above and below the area you wanna work and peel that area of tape away. That way you don't need to re-grip the whole deck.
cheers guys, cost isnt an issue (and i like makin a mess) so i think im going to go with epoxy. Does anybody have any particular epoxy in mind or is it all good.

Its not the cheapest but the easiest way is to get some araldite in the twin tube dispenser. When I say not cheap it cost about $12 for 100gm from hardware stores when you can buy it for about $30 per kg from a fibreglass shop.
This is basicly just a 50/50 version of epoxy. You can find the same stuff in those $2 dollar shops aswell.
I don't recommend using the epoxy res. you get in kits for repairs because it runs like water and difficult to work with. Araldite is more like a gel version.
Simply mix the stuff up equal parts and apply with a lil plastic spatular or paddlepop stick. The stuff sets in around 5mins so preparation is everything. Get everything ready before you mix the glue. If you're gonna try and "re-laminate" it helps to open the ply's a tiny bit so you can work the glue in between. You must clamp it back down again if you do this. Use builders plastic over the top so you don't glue the clamp to your deck. 3 layers of gladwrap is a substitute but it will melt onto the job. No prob if your gonna sand back after. Clamp something flat over the top so the pressure is spread out.
Mix up and prepare somewhere cool and in the shade. Once your done leave it in the sun. Hotter the better. You'll be ready to shape it up in an hr or 2. If there are any holes left mix up a small amount and use glue as putty. Doesn't matter if there are lumps. File it back to shape and sand it smooth.
jamie, ash was just telling me about the new delam, can be be fixed have done the job on a dh race about four years ago and its still going strong. give us a call if you like 0400722286, or better still get a glyde- and it will never ever be an issue again. Pete
Pete, s'all good took it back to the boardshop and Tony replaced it. I will still have to get a GLyde though, they look great let me know when you guys do the next batch and i will take one off your hands. Thanks for the offer of repair though apprecite it bro Cheers Jamie
