I know there was all types and styles of boards in the Canberra ditch last year but I just wanted a couple of opinions before I commit to setting up another board. I was considering a shorted top mount like a Voodoo Doll or something.

I like rinding my Dervish on the flat but had no luck with it in the ditch last year. Any thought on a good Ditch board?

Top mount for sure as you need clearance to enter ditch
I liked the look of the Rayne Agent as I would prefer something to support my feet. I would probably extend the wheel base closer to 23 inches.
I endded up making my own to similar dimensions.
I would like to run 75mm wheels if I can avaoid wheelbite.

Other guys were happy with the longer longboards. The Avenger seemed to be well suited.

like you said though you will see a huge range of boards in this ditch and I dont think that any realy stood out as being superior.
Thanks for those ideas Dave, I was thinking of a top mount for better turn leverage. I might even top mount my Dervish if I don't get around to getting another board (although anyone else wanting to ride a Dervish mine only scrapped a little on the way into the ditch with randalls and 75mm wheels so you'd be fine drop mounted).

Yeah I kind of feel more secure and in control with my feet over the trucks like a giant slalom board, which is pretty much what and Avenger is I guess.

I could just widen the trucks on my new slalom board which is but considering the punishment my poor old Dervish got in the teeth of doom last year, I'm not keen to risk the carbon finish!
Ive been thinking about building a ditch board for a while. I was thinking a bare essentials carbon foamcore topmount/dropthrough with some camber and a wheel base of around 27 - 28 inches. The camber should provide a little extra clearance and some nice snappy flex to help transition from bank to bank
I have 2 boards that i use for ditch's, S9-trilam- its pumpable as hell has a nice amount of flex and turns on a dime. I also have a DTS big double kick which is sitting on some gullwings and big zigs, crazy fast, easy to ride in the ditch, dont know if its as fast as the trilam but its alot of fun to ride in the ditch
Rayne Hustler, 70mm 80a zigzags, paris 180mm, front foot peg . nuff said

The Avenger seems like the right board in spec but having a little flex in the ditch feels rad and let me say again a front foot peg feels like cheating in the canberra ditch its that useful
Rebel Skates - Gun (double kick)
38" x 10" - 21.5" wb
180mm randals (both dewedged), loose front, tight back.
70mm 80a slalom wheels.

I'm not a big advocate of the death button.
My deck has enough concave to hold my hoof's in solid and long enough to feel comfy between the kicks.
I guess is was stoopid question. That's why ditch racing is so interesting. So far we've had top mount, drop through, longboard, short board, slide board, pintail. Last year I saw ditch master Neil W. take one run on a short kick flipper with tiny hard wheels! (told me he did it to prove to his teenage son it could be done). The Bear looked like he was on a full on downhill board.

So i guess the answer to the question "what board" is "skateboard". But keep the opinions comin!

Anyway I get an xray on my foot next week to see if I'm skating Canberra at all!
I've never been to the Canberra ditch, but have ridden a lot in the Kincumber ditch and my favourite board to ride there is my Alva Black Caddy.
