im considering the Tan Tien board but was wondering what trucks to get..

Randals have a good name, at hopkin they put on paris 180s, at momentum they have the holey ones.. what do you guys think? whats the difference?

For a first board, I think you may want to look at something that is more of an all rounder.

The Rayne Hellcat and Landyacht 9 two 5 spring to mind.

Something that is nice to carve and free ride, but can also be brought up to decent speed.

From there, decide what you really love doing and get a board more specific to that.

Having said that, I believe Paul come from a bit of a street background, so can see why a board with kicks appeals to him.
i agree with shannon. i have an isis and i freeride on that and it is a sick dh board as well.

i would reconmend an allround board.

just by changing trucks/bushing combo's you can turn a dh board into a super carvy freeride board.
noooo
my bros friend just upgraded to a tan tien from some crap s9 and he loves it, what you want getting in to more longboarding is
a) something you can learn to slide on (tan tien can do that)
b) something you do a bit of dancing on (tan tien can do that)
c) something you can learn air tricks on (tan tien can do that)
d) something you can do a bit of mild boming on (tan tien can do that)
hell cats and 9two5's are rad but not if you decide you like doing flat tops, dancing and never going above 30k's. the tan tien is a great pick
bu

but anyway to your original question:
if you get either
randal, paris or bear you will be happy. they are all basically the same except that the bears have some good flipping options.

i have randals and they are sick. my cousin has paris and they are sick. personally i would get red or blue paris or purple. just cause they are cool at the moment and new. but any will be fine.
damn, knew i shoulda checked prices before i posted that! hah
hey guys!

thanks for all your comments and suggestions on boards and such..

yeah I have a heavy street background as shannon said, have had doublekick skateboards for years and years.. i spend most of my time rolling around streets and like hills, but not crazy fast at this stage..

i jumped on the tan tien at momentum the other day and it felt AWESOME (although pricey).. now im tossing up between buying a cheapy board and riding that for a while (like a sector 9 or flex-something i saw at city beach surf for $200).

this video (along with how much i love the flex feel of the board) is what inspires me to get a tan tien;

i had a tan tien before i got a switch. i had paris on my tan tien and bear on my switch. get bear, they are probably the best truck ive ridden and ive ridden paris bear and randal
by the way, loaded boards have alot of hype, try taking a look others aswell.
You all rooted the pooch on this one.
I thought this thread was what trucks??

Paul,
Paris, Randal, Bear, and Holeys are so similar at 50 deg baseplates and 180 wide. The difference is only subtle and can easily be changed with different bushes anyway.

Randal and paris have better after market bushing compatibility compared to Bear or Holey. A good range of bushes can make 1 pair of trucks into many to suit all different styles of longboard riding.
Bear and holey require more specialised shaped bushes which limits their range.

The rest is up to your personal taste. Basically which ones you think look better.

Randals are great, but some prefer Paris because they have a nicer shape and cleaner castings. All the trucks I've mentioned are good quality these days.
Forgot to mention Gullwing Chargers are another good choice with the same baseplate angle and hanger width.
Same goes for Crail.
i think ill go with paris or randal trucks.. they seem to be the most popular and thus have the most aftermarket support, buying randals seems to be the equiv of buying indy trucks for a double kick.. randals set the standard, right?
I think that is about the size of it. I prefer Paris though mainly due to the finish and a slightly better turn. That's all preference though. I would be surprised if you were disappointed by any of the trucks mentioned.
speaking of indys, just chuck some 215's on it. Youll know how they ride, it'll be nice and low for some slidey action, and I'm guessing you have some already...
