Event Description

What is it?

Downhill racing at the Pump Station. Two-man heats. There will be no timed qualifiers - every rider qualifies and will be seeded randomly. But don't worry about getting a tough draw; it's a double-elimination system, so everybody gets a second chance. Every person will race at least two heats, and there will be hours of practice.

What's the hill like?

It's about 800 metres long, with a top speed of about 55km/h (for skateboarders). No footbreaking is required, nor sliding around corners. It's easy enough for first-time racers, but has enough in it to create epic head-to-head racing for the pros.

How much does it cost?

Skateboard: $30
Luge: $30
Both: $60

What do I get?

Apart from a day of racing, you have a shot at PRIZE MONEY. Cre8ive Sk8 and Hopkin Skate are providing prize money in the form of vouchers at their shops. How much? $2,400

What are the categories?

Open Skateboard: Everybody who wants to be Master of the Hill.
Maximum 64 riders.
1st: $300, 2nd: $200, 3rd: $100.

Junior Skateboard: For those under 18 on race day. Juniors can also race in the Open category, so they get two events for the price of one.
Maximum 32 riders.
1st: $300, 2nd: $200, 3rd: $100.

Grom Skateboard: For those under 16 on race day. Groms can also race in the Junior category, so they get two events for the price of one.
Maximum 32 riders.
1st: $300, 2nd: $200, 3rd: $100.

Luge: This includes classic luge. It's all one big category for those lying down. Ride whatever you think is faster (or whatever you have).
Maximum 32 riders.
1st: $300, 2nd: $200, 3rd: $100.

Who can enter?

How do I get there?

The exact location of the Pump Station is only revealed to those who sign a sacred oath to respect it, respect the traditional owners, and to leave it as clean and sparkling as they found it. If you can't get somebody to tell you where it is, contact Bugs or Robbo a couple of days before the race and they might tell you. Generally speaking it's about a 90 minute drive west of the Sydney CBD.

Food & Drink

A BBQ will be on-site to provide food & drinks at a reasonable cost. There are no nearby shops. Bring your own water and sunscreen.

Some rules and regs

1. Two-pushes only at the start. No kicking the board out in front of you and running and jumping on to it.
2. No riding the steep side of the hill! At all! Instant disqualification. (This is to prevent head-on collisions)
3. No walking back up the hill on the track. (Gotta leave the whole track clear for those riding down).
4. No parking cars in spots that might piss off local residents. Stay clear of driveways, gates etc.
5. Everything else we haven't thought of yet.
