Event Description

Beat the Bastard is an organised freeride at Mt Stuart, Townsville. The Mt Stuart road will be closed off to all car traffic, and you'll get virtually unlimited runs on it for two days straight, with a lift to the top each time. All proceeds go towards cancer research.

What's a freeride?

It's anything you want it to be, except that it is NOT RACING. Ride down the hill, express yourself, go fast if you want, but do not make a race of it with anybody. Anyone found racing will be removed from the hill and not allowed to run again.

What's the hill like?

It's long and fast and full of corners. The max speed is around 80km/h, and you'll be close to that speed for much of the run. There is no uphill runout, and you'll need to be able to footbreak to a stop from high speed.

When is it?

The weekend of May 15-16, 2010.

Tech Inspection

The Tech Inspection will be at Ado's shop, Cre8ive Sk8, in Aitkenvale, on Friday May 14th, beginning at 10:00am till 6:00pm. There will be a rider's meeting immediately following tech inspection: 6:00pm til 7.00pm.

Some of you may not get into Townsville until Friday night, so a secondary Tech Inspection will take place on the hill, Mt Stuart, from 6:00am till 7:00am. Any riders who didn't pass the Friday Tech and had equipment/safety gear to bring up to speed can see me then, which gives you overnight to get things organised.

Riders who either do not attend Tech Inspection or do not pass Tech Inspection and receive the relevant Tech Inspection Pass will not be allowed to ride.

Any question regarding Tech, or Rulebook, please contact Sakamoto through here, or by email: sakamotoluger@gmail.com

Conehead Cup Super-G

The Super Giant Slalom race will be held again in conjunction with the event and it will be a leg of the Conehead Cup. There will be a $30 entry fee, and all racers must also be financial ASRA members. These costs are not included in the BtB registration fee.

Note for slalomers: Be aware that that this is slalom at downhill speeds; up to 60km/h. Leathers and a full-face helmet will be required. Bring your downhill board and leave your slalom board at home. Also be aware that you will need to be able to footbreak at high speed to come to a stop as there is no uphill runout.

From Adrian:

As you will be aware any rider at this event under 18 on the day of the event will be expected to have a parent or guardian present to countersign the waiver form. I want to make a few things clear about these guardians, as well as some other things younger riders need to consider.

1. It is fine for your parents to entrust you to another adult for the event, however each adult guardian is to only be responsible for a maximum of 2 riders that are not their own children.

2. It is expected that the guardian/parent will be present at the course whilst the riders they are supervising are riding. If something goes wrong we don't want to be having to search all over Townsville for the adult responsible for the rider.

3. There will be a lot of very experienced older riders at this event, some of them will be heros to some of the newer younger riders. Please respect the fact that these guys are here to have fun and ride. I am sure they will be happy to give people tips and suggestions on how to ride the hill, but they are not here to babysit younger crew, they are coming up to ride and have fun. Please don't pester them.

4. This is a fun weekend when crew get to have heaps of runs down one of the best hills in Oz with the road closed and legal to ride. We don't want to risk this event because someone does something silly on one of the vehicles heading back up the hill. Any behaviour that risks other riders or the event will result in that person being asked to leave the event and they will not be allowed back on the hill.

just a few tips for groms and first time mt stuarters come prepared for this one---practice your footbreaking,.have two pairs of shoes with good qual footbrake material.,coz even car tyre was worn to nothing after weekend.,and wheels-a few sets.....and griptape, coz youll probs melt and destroy that to.....ado has all this but once at the hill and your gear starts to wear and fail, need to be prepared......last year crew were missin runs coz they were wrestling with car tyre and kwik grip at the bottom of hill......or sewing leathers...just a heads up
