ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hey guys,
I'm new to skating and am thinking about getting into downhill. I was wondering what would be the cheapest setup i.e board and helmet and where from.
any other tips or sites would be much appreciated thanks for the help
cheers

You kind of live in the middle of us all, you should get in touch with the sunshine coast guys and I think theres a couple in Redcliffe as well as us in Brisbane.
Also make sure to check out the estate in Mango Hill, you should be able to find a nice run on that butter smooth stuff.
For Leathers go to HiSide Leathers HiSide - he's the only guy selling 2nd hands for quite a distance.
For Full Face helmets TBSM is the way to go TBSM Fullface helmets
For all your other skate gear, go to
Hopkin Racing
Boardshop
and Ado from Cre8tive Sk8 (you will have to phone him up)
hey mate
for trucks u have a choice between randals, crails, bears, and force trucks, for cheap cast trucks
i personally run force c7's, i enjoy the lower angle and they are the cheapest option
hit up dave kelly from fsu about those http://skateboarddownhill.com/hardware 85$ ;)
also don't forget to check out concrete lines for some deals, merrick has a thread up about it under gear
(i know im giving u more sites, but hey u want the best deal out there)
wheels, u can choose from well, anything, i think the favourites of this site, are orangatang in heats or bigzigs,
bones reds for bearings
i think thats everything
happy hunting
I've got an Omni with Edger grip tap, 80a & 83a Loaded Orangatang "In Heat" 75mm, Gullwing Bombers, 90a venom DH bushings and Bones Reds and I’ve taken it over 80. I highly recommend this set up to any newbie. Give James at Hopkin's or Ado at Cre8iveSK8 a call and they will give ya a good deal on a complete package. Make sure you get good grip tap (Edger or Hardcore) and a set of venom/reflex DH/double barrel bushings (orange+89a reflex or 90a venom).
Go grab the new super bones reds, there not much more $ and are top-notch bearings
There the chinese version of bones super swiss 6- which are 80$ bearings
These super red ones are only 41$ just a bit more than the average bones reds which are 30$
Prices based on Boardshop

Also the Gullwing dh package might be good for you, it uses a lower degree "bomber" truck at the back and the higher degree "charger" at the front. The Gullwing Downhill Combo

Super REDS™ are designed from the ground up to be the best bearing on the market at this price point.
Best performance per $$$ bearing on the market.

i beg to differ, depending on where you shop you can get Rock'N'Rons for about 20-40 a set and if you ask me they are alot faster then reds. Modus blacks are also abit better if you ask me and they are cheaper as well as easier to maintain

dont worry about bearings that much, you really wont notice the difference

Agree
These are the new super reds, there NOT Bones reds.
Rock'N'Rons are the same price as reds at 30.
I can't compare out of those which is better as I haven't used rock'n'rons or modus, but if these new super reds are anything like there cousin, bones swiss labyrinths, which are still goning strong for me since I got them in early march (without 1 clean) there bound to be good.
That's enough bearing talk as other parts are much more integral. Sorry for going on a little bit.
