ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Stacked a couple of hours ago, was going dh trying out my new truck setup. Came to a roundabout, speed wobbled, made it around somehow, then came a sharp left turn.
I knew i wouldn't be able to make it, so i just took the fall. I was planning on rolling out of it but i didnt. Instead, when i stepped off, i went "superman" on the ground for around 5 metres before hitting a curb, then eventually stopping. Grazed my knees slightly, my right arm pretty badly, and a bit more here and there.
I was wearing just a hoodie (sleeves rolled up (which i regret)) and trackies. Has anyone done anything similar to this, and if so, what were the results??

And for my arm graze (first time) i washed it with cold water, then applied some pads/bandages to it. Is that what i should have done??

Mainly want to find out about what to do for grazes
thx

I hope you were wearing a helmet. We have all been there man, the more you skate the better you will get and you will stack less. For now keep your helmet on and maybe grab some knee pads and gloves to. This is the first test. If you get back on the board again it means your addicted. If you dont.... it means you have at least half a brain. Make sure you wash ALL of your cuts. Blood poisoning is easy to get from road rash.

Enjoy the shower dude HAHAHAHA
yeah man dani is right, me and my mates where up at blue mountains the other day and just as my mate took off his elbo pads he stacked it on his next run, when ever i go dh ill alway where the proper gear, gloves helmet knee and elbo pad.
next best thing is invest invest in lethers like me :).
i stacked on my first ever time dh, just get beck on the board every one has to learn the hard way in this sprot.
take it easy bro, and yeah enjoy the shower...............
haha as some of my mates will tell u the moment i take my helmet or pads of i fall, sometimes silly people like me gotta learn the hard way,
but yes like dani said, go at those cuts with both water and some kind of wound cleaner, like detol or iodine i believe
they sting but you will be much happier when you cut isn't yellow :)
I've had a few bad ones, but I've always worn a helmet and always gotten straight back on the board (so I can push myself to my car for bandaids) cracked a fullface moto helmet in sydney was wearing a shirt and jeans took off most of my left shoulder, my left elbow and a good chunk of my hip, if not for the helmet I'd be pretty fucked up or dead.
I was going extremely slow one day at night around this corner and hit a random patch of sand.

Hit my head on the ground ( had a helmet on so was all good) but grazed my back and arms. Wasnt really knee pads so i was pretty lucky not to touch my knees on the ground.
came off a few times today out at dandy and got real luckey, was bombing at some pretty good speed and board got a massive speed wobble and threw me off, was luckey enough to have an idea of what going on when it happened and managed to get onto my knee pads and gloves and slid backwards looking at the 3 cars that where sitting behind me which i didnt notice, freaked the fuck out of me.
One thing you gotta realise,
After you take skin off for the first time it grows back. Take it off again it should grow back no problem.
Everytime after that you start finding it never the same again.
I've put scars on scars that healed up and scarred again. The skin has major trouble growing and is weak as piss.
Now I find that when I stack I take skin off even with leathers or pads that fit properly. The skin just breaks up.

There's nothing wrong with going into superman during an off. Knee pads and slide gloves could have saved you alot of pain.
Have fun detatching your spotwelded scabs from your sheets in the morning!
OK first off, with any dodgy sport it should be the responsibility of those that participate to get a decent first aid course.....you can look after your buddies and you can direct others to look after you; "Oh yeah"
Secondly not everyone has big spills; all the time ha ha ha after riding my first board in around '76 ish my first major stack was in '96 hit a lip on vert VERY VERY hungover forgot what I was going to do thought about it (MUG) and lost the board. They say I dropped about 12 foot, nothing by todays standards, but I never bounced 1/2 inch I soaked the whole thing up when I hit the deck, Fractured thigh, popped my shoulder out, 4 broken ribs, broken ankle and wrist. Wearing pads and helmet but full of alcohol...SELF INFLICTED. The long lasting effect is I'm now practicing with a ramp in the garden to build my confidence for slalom in Canberra 13 years later. Big falls, little falls, know what causes them and steer clear of it, bad technique, alcohol, pot holes, pot (ha ha ha, self amusement) and learn how to do deal with shit when it goes wrong, that way we help each other out.
well luckily for me the shower aint too bad, i waterproofed my bandaging...which im starting to doubt now
lol...should i keep it enclosed or let it air and or wash it?
only main thing thats pissing me off right now is my upper right arm...dunno wat to call it, but it hurts when i lift it...lol
same/little less pain than my previous stack
i was carving down, and god knows what i hit, but i ended up landing on my upper left arm...my friend said it was probably an uber cork...but like one and a half months later, it still sometimes hurts when i move it up
