ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hey guys, i need a little help here. (First Skateboard)
So i'm currently interested in buying a skate board for my self, (I'm a beginner skateboarder)
I'm from Sydney and i dont really have a clue where to buy skateboards, I'm looking for a complete skateboard or one i can build on my own. So can anyone help me out and tell me where some skateboard shops are located in? ( stores in or close to Sydney or online stores)

Note: I am not interested into skateboards from stores like Kmart, Toys'r'us, etc..
I am looking for branded skateboards (Zero, Alien workshop, Element, Plan B, etc..
I have also been thinking about some online stores that i found "Skaterhq", "CCS", and "Boardshop Australia".

Tell me what you think.
Cheers

Guess that depends on what you value your brain at. Me, I wear a few different helmets from a $90 Protec Ace to a $800 Bell Wedge depends on where and what I'm riding but I'd NEVER scrimp on a lid!!!!!!!! Guess that's why I'm still riding at 53 years old and not yet in a home (;-)>

I honestly have no idea... Like i said, i'm new to all this stuff.
Would it be good to just buy protective gear from like k'mart or whatever?
I mean, does it really make a difference?

A helmet is a must I turn 50 monday and allways were mine if you hit your head hard no more skateboarding may be the best thing that happens too you. Just buy the best you can afford for now.

I have to agree man, i dont want to hit my head and have my life gone down the drain. Better safe than sorry . :P

How much would you pay for your Nike SBs your after? you seem to value your foot more than your head

Dude, $70 or even $100 is good. How much is your head worth? I know I'd be happy to spend whatever it takes to protect my head because its worth way more than $70. Have you seen what brain injury can do to you? Think about it.....

Not you, dude. Alex Moore.

dave i meant he should go to hopkin not just look at the site

Alex: not a good suggestion. An internet order site is only going to be able to give you a vague idea of what might suit. NOTHING beats walking into a skate shop staffed by people who know their stuff.

Justin:

HOPKIN

Go there now!

oh sorry mate my bad

well, I would pay up to $100 for nike sb's, as for my helmet, i've decided to get Protec Ace SXP. If that is enough to protect my head :L,
So, do you recommend any shoes or brands?

I this thread for real?

Seriously?

I can't believe I got sucked in on this too by even writing something.

Fitz, this one seems legit. Trolling is generally easy to pick (groms aren't very subtle).

Justin, skate shoes are skate shoes. They all work. My only advice is to get high tops so you don't smash your ankle on the edges of the board learning to footbrake. I wear Globe Superflys and they are the shiznitt but Hopkin have a buch of equally rad shoes or if you're really strapped just go to Big W.

For your board needs, I'm just going to repeat the same advice. Jump in your car or on a train and head to Hopkin now. The internet will not help you here. Also, don't go to Skater HQ - great for blades, not for boards.

I would really really like to go, the thing is. I don't always have the time to go. Considering that it is actually quite far from my home. I have school (Mon - Friday)and on Saturdays and sundays, my parents are usually busy. I do have sisters but they are busy too.
This is why i find it more convenient to get things from online. :(, although that isn't always good.
