Asphalt boarding has never been more popular. A total of eighty athletes wanted to compete in the longboard competition this year.
Unfortunately there were only 64 spots available. But the guys in their black leather suits were more than happy to see so many eager contestants. Cedric Cornell has been skating since he was eleven years old. Now he’s 43 and still boarding.
- The funniest thing with longboarding is the excitement and thrills, he chuckled. This time he didn’t make it to the top. However, he was happy to help out the organizers.
Morten was one of the only six participants who competed in longboarding in 2004.
- A lot of things have changed since 2004. For example almost everyone has suits now. It’s safer and increases our speed, Morten said.
Anders Taube was among ten other contestants who came from Sweden. According to him the organization of longboard activities in Sweeden has decreased during the last years. Therefore he travels abroad to test his international skills.
- Once when I longboarded downhill in the French Alps, I got a speed of 100 km/h, he laughed.
The well known Jackson Shapiera from Australia won today’s contest and a price of 5000 NOK and a longboard.
