Most trucks are indeed cast into sand, some have the axles in there when the alu' goes in hot, some are pressed in there afterwards.
all the new-er line of randals are sand cast with the axles in the mold. the Comp 2 linup goes through a secondary heat treating process, I don't think this can be done to a cast-in truck - as alu' and steel behave differently when it comes to heat treating.
There's a few LB trucks on the market that are cast into a solid state mold, but they've all gone to china to do so - it's generally too expensive for most companies to make solid state molds, without compromising something... so thay go to china and make jokes of it.
