the top section of montacute is pretty hairy, its a tiny bit rough in some sections (not crazy rough just enough to get you a bit uneasy) and its kinda windy, wouldnt really suggest it to beginers, you really need to know how to control your speed... the very bottom of it is hell mellow and smooth though, but its super slow if you dont get the speed boost in from the top section

omg lol thanks for that answer. Rlly appreciated. I was thinking of making some glovees coz I'm shit at footbrake (ATM, i'm gonna practise it more). I was gonna just sand or cross hatch some UHMW or chopping board r sumthing, and then either use super glue or shoe goo to stick it onto the gardening or mechanics gloves. Any tips? BTW is it hard to start slide? For some reason I've got the idea that its easy lol, maybe because most people make it look easy. Yea, I wet down linden and broke my thumb lol and now I'm kind of scared about hills coz I don't like not being able to stop when I want to. There are a couple of streets around rose park which I found fun riding today. about 800 m long and rlly smooth called Swaine av, gd for beginners. Dulwich av= too many cars. My other house is in Glen Osmond, I'm finding that a lot of streets there are too short and steep and really rough, but there r a few.

Thanks for that Leigh!

depending on where your at, rose park/tusmore/hazelwood park is a perfect starting point. thats where i first started actually. then once my confidence level got a little higher i started riding stuff up around Erindale (Statenborough Street was our favourite back then).
when learning to bomb hills, just do the hills in stages. you don't have to start from the top. thats what grows your confidence. if you have a fall in the beginning it really hurts your confidence, so take it easy. I still take it slow on new hills to be safe and so i feel confident riding it the next time.
also i urge you to wear gloves and a helmet. gloves will help save your wrists, collarbones and skin. it also means that you can learn to safety slide, which is very important when starting out. - TIP - dont stinkbug (grabbing board between legs). whilst it makes it easier to slide the board out, it is difficult to control and is a habit that is hard to un-learn. grab between the shin and foot of your back leg.
also, footbrake as much as you can. - TIP - practice standing on the board with one foot (non kicking foot) whilst moving. that will improve you balance heaps, which is very important for footbraking. when you footbrake, hang you foot over the side and bend your other knee enough so your foot smoothly slides on the road. try to put the bulk of your weight on the board, so your braking foot doesn't grab the road. i often press the inside of my ankle against the board when footbraking to help my balance. i found when learning that helped a lot, but it may not work with all board heights.
i suggest you spend as much time riding as possible. when i first got my board, i rode everywhere and everytime i went out i learnt something new. i was riding to TAFE every day, so imagine how quickly i learnt and perfected the basics.
if you do a bit of riding everyday, even just around rose park you will be riding hills you thought you wouldn't contemplate riding in no time.
TIP - MAKE LONGBOARDING YOUR ONLY FORM OF TRANSPORT and have fun of course

Hey, I'd like to know if anyone knows some mellow spots around the Eastern suburbs area (either around Glen Osmond/Beaumont or around Dulwich/Rose Park area). I'm not very confident yet so I don't like doing anything which gets me too fast, mainly because I'm not good at losing speed (I'm not very good at footbraking...). Any places are appreciated, I like roads which have either runoff or uphill section at the end to slow down on.

Thanks

Oh yea, I forgot to say... some relatives of mine live in this suburb called Redwood Park, its north east. The roads there r sick! some long, some short and with decent slope and smoothness, only problem is traffic but I'm sure that there is some areas which are fine. Also, I was there til about 11 pm and not many cars, so maybe night time is better. PLus it's beyond my capabilities, but I thought I'd still just put that out there..
