ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

ive ideas about longboarding docos and movies for a while now, but never really had the resources/manpower to actually put them into play, but i just wanna pitch this idea to the crew of SA.
Tthe hills around adelaide are beautiful, quiet and farkin great, very very easy to film on. the crew down there is growing as rapidly as the sport is, and stuff like this needs to be shown to the public, not only to further grow the sport but to help in aiding the downhill scene here in oz for future events, publicity and sponsorships for our organisations.
what i wanna do is take a couple of the best riders in OZ down to SA for 2 or 3 weeks and skate all the rad hills down there, doco style. The thing about shooting it down there is the best riders in OZ are from other states, like NSW and QLD, so for them to come down to SA and ride with a new and growing crew, and ride the best hills in OZ (yes they are the best) could make an awesome story. it could be a story of dudes from around AUS getting together in a new place to sample some of the unknown, hanging out with friends and really documenting the stoke that longboarding gives us. everyone would do an interview at the end of the trip pretty much explaining the whole trip and using those voice-overs to narrate the story, mixing it up with cool scenery and culture of the area.
I know things like this have been done before, or tried to be done, but there hasnt been something like this done PROPERLY in australia, and i think now is the time, and SA is the perfect place to do it. There are a bunch of us out there who are good with the cameras and really know how to shoot it properly, so if everyone gets together and really commits to this project and helps too this can be done. It would be a very low budget project shot on whatever cameras we have at our disposal (and i know if we all pool our resources we have more than enough cameras) so we dont need to go hire film crews and all that technical mumbo jumbo. It will be purely a movie about skaters shot entirely by skaters.

If anyone is with me raise your hand and say I

I'm keen! (both hands up!)
Sounds like a great idea.

Just make it after or during June... So i have my P's. :D
it has to line up with the IGSA world cup travel dates as well as the 2009 cone head cup... nothing can overlap. even if we dont do this till next year thats cool as long as it gets done properly
i was thinking of doing a big video shoot like this the next time you came to visit actually. so i'm definitely keen.
i agree that it has to be done properly, so i do think we atleast need a lighting crew for the interviews and stuff. i studied with a heap of guys that would be happy to dedicate their time to help us out with anything in terms of filmmaking, so why not make the most of it aye.
also, we need to be super organised and plan heaps to make it as professional as possible.

love the idea man and its good to know we have the best hills in OZ.
the stuff with lighting you would only need for interviews... if you wanted to use propper lighting for shots of the actual skating your gonna need a budget and a permit... lighting stuff aint cheap (as u know) and will take lots and lots of time to set up and do take after take to do it right... also when dudes drive past and see people setting up lights and shit its like erm hang on.... wtf... it just cant be done... this can be done very very easily all people need to do is be patient and listen to the director, when something needs to happen it needs to happen as soon as it is said
me and my mate have got some decent camera equipment now too (as you know), so all that can be used for the scenery/interviews. we are both saving up for a proper steadicam set-up too, so that will help make the shots look pro.
i reckon we should get some of the surf culture in it too, because of the link it has with us and because SA has some amazing surf/beaches. what you think?
Yeah sick idea, like you said take your time and plan it properly and its bound to turn out sweet! If something like this was going to happen i think hiring a mini bus would be the go, pile everyone in and just keep on driving from hill to hill.
yeh im gonna get one of those tiny portable steady cam things for my handy cam. Adam colton used it in the o-tang video and fark it works wonders... yeh that could be good to mix it in with surfing and the beach, its a longboarding video in australia, the surf has to be involved.

can we get some dates for all the IGSA and Cone Head Cup events up here so everyone can have a look at what sort of schedule we have to work around? even if we include random road trips or skate adventure people have planned or random outlaw comps it would be good not to overlap with anything
fuck yeh, im in, sounds awesome!
yeah, this is the steadicam we are looking at;

not the most portable thing aye, but our big camera unfortunately won't work with a smaller/cheaper steadicam cos of its weight.

so any more thoughts on the idea Jacko? i've got lots of picturesque runs i have thought of and checked out that would make it look really good.
we do need to figure out how we are gonna do the planning, considering we can't really get together in person.
Leigh, that thing looks unreal!

Be able to get some awesome shots with that bad boy.

Im thinking of getting a new video camera, what would you recommend? im after something half decent but not too crazy. Just want it to be HD and be able to plug in a lipstick cam, external mic function etc. Any thoughts?
all i need to do is organise a date... once i get the planning sorted for 2009's race shedule then i can start thinking about this movie. its not goin to be any time soon and you never know it may not happen till 2010 but as long as everyone stays on the ball and keeps thinking about it it will be rockin
