Not sure what everyone thinks but i am not that keen on the sale of second hand helmets. As a buyer you have no knowledge of the integrity of the helmet. I could go on but i think everyone gets the idea .Thoughts....

if your a kid and dont have enough money to dish out on safety gear hit up your folks. They SHOULD buy you stuff like helmets. Just say look mum/dad im going to be doing this why not do it safely... would u like me to be dead or a vegtable? i dont think so...
if they wont buy u a helmet they are bad parents...
yeh,i dont agree bugs...i dont change the way i approach things because i have a helmet on...i still avoid crashin at all cost...it is also instant reaction to protect your head in a fall....most cases a helmet comes into effect when u are highsided
or thrown with enough momentum, that u cant hold your head from smackin hard on the ground...in this case i recon any protection between your head and the road has to be better than none...B-rad's is the latest incident to confirm this with me.cheap shit helmet-highsided hard-smacks back of head hard on road-smashes cheap helmet to peices and walks away with a red mark on head,if you asked me that cheap shit helmet saved his life.......this is my opinion and am responding to bugstech, so dont take anything out of the cheap helmet saves life story..get a good one...
also, i would rather wear any helmet when smashing my head into a gutter from a metre away than no helmet.

This post isn't about questioning the effectiveness of different helmets. I can't see any problem with the sale of any other used piece of equipment related to skateboarding just NOT helmets. Could a restriction on the sale of used helmets be considered??
Damn!
Can we do it after I sell mine? Ha!
It's sitting on the shelf gathering dust and I could use the cash.
It's used but like new condition.
tough call, you would have to make it outright illegal to sell used helmets all together. If you restrict the sale on these forums, people can always get them from ebay and other places. either that or find a cheap way to test helmets that doesn't involve breaking them...
i think the best you can do is inform and educate people about the importance of a good helmet, maybe let them know where to buy a good used helmet if that's all their budget allows. For example if you bought a used helmet off here you'd be pretty safe that whoever was selling it was honest about its history (no one in their right mind would do that to someone in their own sport's community). Much the same with aussie MTB forums.
The question of if that person knows for sure if the helmet is fine is much the same as buying a new helmet and knowing that it hasn't been compromised during production, shipping, storage, local freight etc....

Another point to keep in mind, and I would assume that mountain bike helmets would be similar. Motorbike helmets have an expiry date. (I think about five years from date of manufacture). This is because the helmet will deteriorate, not only from drops or falls but the actual materials the helmet is made from deteriorate with time.
Buying second hand Helmets is not good, even when buying new check the manufactured date. If it's been sitting on a shelf for 2 or 3 years its probably not worth buying either.
Most coroners and government agencies worldwide have determined that the sale of used helmets contribute to head injuries and have recommended banning their sale . In certain cases they are directly responsible for death. The only problem is the cost of implementing and policing a ban , and in the case of Australia they cannot determine what to do with the bicycle rental business so they have decided to go with education. All i would suggest is that we do not allow potentially dangerous helmets to be sold on this forum. If dudes want to buy them elsewhere so be it ... OK i will shut up now.
it is illegal here in qld for second hand dealers to sell used motorcycle helmets, dunno about the other states.
really? because I just bought a full face from cash converters about 3 weeks ago (Only cost me 28 bucks)
