Event Description

Grab 'yer Wheelyboard and take a shot at the Wild Wild West!

Format

4-man Heats 'Round Robin' style racing into finals elimination tree

The Hill

Fast technical track featuring 2 hairpin turns, fast straights and tight sweepers with plenty of drafting options. Speeds while racing could reach as high as 80km/h. Road surface is nice and smooth and ready to shred.

Travel

There will be a shuttle bus for this race This bus will leave from Sydney on FRIDAY afternoon from my house at around 5 or 6pm and will make one stop at Hopkin on the way to pick up anyone else who cant make it to Curl Curl.

We will be traveling back to sydney as soon as the race finishes.

Location

The hill's location is on the western side of the Blue Mountains (45 minutes from Katoomba) but will be undisclosed until the DAY of the race. Everyone will meet at Venice Caravan Park, Hartley by 6am and will roll as a group to the hill. If you are late, you miss out.

Categories

There will be only an opens class run as far as race divisions go as the track is not a 'Grom/Beginner' track, however if there are riders under the age of 17 and a bunch of girls then we will have results and prizes for them according to how they ranked in the opens.

Registration

Registration is now closed

Safety Requirements

  • Full Leathers
  • Fullface helmet
  • Gloves

Due to the location of the race, and it being far from the nearest medical institute we will need all competitors to be prepared and come ready with all the necessary safety items listed.

Accommodation

Due to the distance traveling by most competitors, it would be a good idea to get your camping action on, or book somewhere to stay on the friday night. The Majority of the group will be staying at Venice Caravan Park on friday night. It is $14 per person for camping. This is also the meeting place for the following morning.

If anyone else would like to help out by donating some prizes let me know and we can get your logo up on race day as an event sponsor!

The event was great. The main guys helping organise and run it were very well-drilled and everything ran super smoothly. I really enjoyed being a part of it, thanks guys!

The residents I was talking to were very laid back and happy with the safety precautions in place too. Looking forward to the next event.

Rippin times folks!

Huge thanks to Bugs for creating some rad spreadsheets and being online to answer questions.  The race ran very smoothly, with two heats running on the road at a time.  I think practice started at about 8 and the race was done by noon.  Talk about efficient!

The volunteers all did a great job, big thanks to them.  Jacko showed some serious event management skills, in addition to his racing prowess.  The breakfast packs were greatly appreciated.

Great to see some guys coming back from injury - Yatesy and Matti Rae were well in form this weekend.  Phill C was lurking around too, hope to see you back on a board soon dude.

This event goes to show that with a bit of organisation, the right location, solid volunteers, and a bit of luck (i.e. no 5-0!) a safe and sound non-sanctioned race can be held.  Congrats to all involved.

PS - now I need to go back and ride this hill myself!!
