Dh setup

Going to be buying a new DH/freeride setup soon, i dont want grippy wheels really and i want to keep the price down, i already have raldal 180's and modus ceramics to put on it so here is the list of parts i am thinking of

Omni drop 43
Randal 42 deg base
Gravity fu manchu's 82a

How are the Fu's as a drifting wheel?

yeah, i will have to go with the FU's they are cheap as hell too with board shops sale

If you can predrift at high speed, with other skaters potentially right alongside you, then that's probably the fastest way through Forest. Last year most guys footbraked a bit just before Forest, and then tried to rail it, but the speed proved too much for many and they started sliding halfway through the corner and could never get the wheels to re-engage. So into the hay. Some high-sided, which was a bit more intense. At one stage Steve Daddow put Kryptos on, thinking that if he was gonna be sliding he'd at least use a wheel that he could control better in slides, but that just sent him into the hay even quicker.

Some guys hit the hay hard, and it's not soft cushiony stuff. And it's got a concrete wall a foot behind it. I'm not saying you (or anybody else) can't do it, just that you should take it easy on the approach to Forrest for a few runs until you start to get a feel for it.

Wash your speed off and you're right.
I used to ride the mount without haybales from the bottom of the Mt Straight and was coming out of forest at 60 riding blue 76mm krypto's. Lil bit of standup drifting but nothing that bad.

Daddow is an animal and that day he was attacking forest elbow at 80 without hesitation.

I'm stoked getting gittery just thinking about the next one this year

Go high-grade over fumanchu
fu's are s-l-o-w... High grades are not, and they drift soooo nice.

that's what i wanted to say, aren't the old gravity urethane really slow?

would love to hear your opinion on running 76mm 83a speedvents up front and 80a vents at the rear on an evo with 200mm kookies and me riding it goofy side into those lefties.....sounds like buying more grip is the key , once you have wiped some speed...appreciate your opinions

going fast at newtons shouldnt be an issue, its going slow enough to make the corners that will be the challenge for me. I am going to order the deck wheels and base tonight hopefully be able to test out the deck at dandy on saturday and just see how it all feels for me

Last year at newtons everyone who raced kept changing their setup. Unfortunately we were'nt really able to get enough runs in for everyone to get a good feel for it.
Those funtunate enough to last through to the finals were going for grip with speed vents and bigzigs among the favourites. They were foot braking before forest though. I managed to sneak a peak into Erics bag when he was doing a wheel change and he had something like 6 different sets of speedvents all brand new in the wrapping! The perks of being sponsored by seismic.
These days everyone is just drifting.

Bottom line is just go with what you're used to riding and your skill will be what gets you through the course.

thanks Fitz , I am told to "respect" your opinions hence the question....I am trying to learn the DELUA way of foot breaking as I cannot balance on one foot , I also am thinking to "v" knotch my evo about 3/4 the way down the left side so I can toebrake but with more than just the toe tip of my shoe by having my heel resting on the notch in the board in a 45degree angle pointing forward . ever heard of this being done before ?

decided to go for some 35deg forces, i think if i am running 35 on the back and 52 up front i should be looking pretty stable, some doube barral bushings all round and i should be sorted. See you all up at newtons
