ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hey guys, i need a little help here. (First Skateboard)
So i'm currently interested in buying a skate board for my self, (I'm a beginner skateboarder)
I'm from Sydney and i dont really have a clue where to buy skateboards, I'm looking for a complete skateboard or one i can build on my own. So can anyone help me out and tell me where some skateboard shops are located in? ( stores in or close to Sydney or online stores)

Note: I am not interested into skateboards from stores like Kmart, Toys'r'us, etc..
I am looking for branded skateboards (Zero, Alien workshop, Element, Plan B, etc..
I have also been thinking about some online stores that i found "Skaterhq", "CCS", and "Boardshop Australia".

Tell me what you think.
Cheers

hey mate look on the side bar of this site and click on hopkin

read the first comment and you are all set to go

Hopkins in St Leonards, you'll get everything you need there

Any of the shops on the right are good cre8ive sk8 is the one I use. But your first board... Hit the marketplace on here for a secondhand one.

my bro was on a website yesterday and he found  a skate shop on the internet called warehouse skateboards and they help pick the perfect board for anyone, They ask for your height and a few other thing and then they give you all the measurements so you can look for boards on there website and if you need spaces.....They are really good and cheap.

Alex: not a good suggestion. An internet order site is only going to be able to give you a vague idea of what might suit. NOTHING beats walking into a skate shop staffed by people who know their stuff.

dave i meant he should go to hopkin not just look at the site

Ah, cool guys, i'll sure check out Hopkin.
But, i've also been wondering about buying skate shoes, What brand do you recommend? Or perhaps, what shoe would you recommend?
I've been thinking about Nike SB's, are they any good?

I also need a helmet. Just wondering, why do skateboard helmets cost so much? :L
They're like $70 +, is there any shops that sell them cheap?

$60 for a triple 8 helmet, what do you expect to pay?

I honestly have no idea... Like i said, i'm new to all this stuff.
Would it be good to just buy protective gear from like k'mart or whatever?
I mean, does it really make a difference?
