ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

heya,

Really want to get started longboarding.  Anyone have any deck suggestions for a n00b?  I've been knocking around on regular skateboard lately and can push/kick and that's about it.

Have seen a few people suggesting the Earthwing superglider?  I'd mainly be using for wkd fun and commutes.

Any ideas appreciated.

thanks

Ive never ridden one but ive heard decent thigns about the bustin maestro/mini maestro

it looks perfect for commuting

i like my loaded tantein as a commuter just because its fun for just about anything, the weight isnt bad either, anything from earthwing is always worth a look

sweet - thanks.  both those boards look amazing. just watched the tan tien vid on loaded - awesome! love the customisation options available for the maestro too.

it's tough knowing what type of board to start with as it seems to be quite a personal decision/choice.

i always wanted the earthwing superglider! in the end i got the comet FSM haha. well i think to get a commuter longboard u need to take note of the weight. but i guess all longboards are kinda heavy but i wouldnt mind!

Have a look at the rayne timeline (stiff flex), landyachtz carbon mummy (dervish flex 2) and the fibretec croco (in between) on hopkin. These are the perfect size for an all round commuter as they can handle the occasional incline but still are very portable.

They are all very light boards I set them up with randals as that is the lightest truck. My fibretec croco is my pumper SO much flat land fun :) As overall commuters I enjoyed the carbon mummy the most as it is by far the most comfortable for cruising. - Though you should note none of these have much of a nose/kick so if you wanna bust out tricks something like the tantien, maestro or the apex 34 would be your go. though depending on your height and preferences the maestro may feel cramped as the foot space would be small due to the drop!

i have a loaded tan tien for sale... flex 2 alright condition.. they're rad!!

yer if you can pick up a tan tien cheap id do that
i loved mine as a commuter and the kicks and flex make it extremely fun board

what do u guys think about the Comet FSM?

Gabriel so long as the board you ask about is not a z-flex/original/skateboardexpress/ebay-board the collective of ASRA will simply say....its awesome get it/ find someone who has it and give it ago/ just get it and skate/ go look on Silverfish there are so many threads stop clogging up the forums with your questions - all valid statements.

Though in answer to your question its a nice board. It has its perks which make people choose it over other drop through decks. Can you freeride it? Yes. Can you dh on it? Yes. The real question is why did you single out that board out of the mass of drop through decks?

tough choice

tan tien

earthwing superglider

bustin maestro/mini maestro

carbon mummy

comet FSM

rayne timeline

fibretec croco

might head into skatebiz and see if can see some for realz. thanks for the help

well because im having the Comet FSM for a wk already. im totally new to longboarding/skateboarding. So just wondering because i dont really see alot of reviews about it. but alot of people mentioned about the sturdiness of it and due to it having some environmentally friendly products, its more prone to being destroyed by humidity. At first i was thinking whether a pintail or a drop through. I heard that pintails are more fun but are abit general. But i prefer the shape of a drop though deck so i got the Comet FSM because i had a good deal from it.

oh ya btw i thought the original is good? i heard that a new drop through from original will be released soon
