Which speed board should I get?
I'm $130 ish off enough for a complete Evo setup. Should I get the Evo or a different one?
BTW which trucks in the setup? And which wheels?

hmm, looks pretty sick, how much would one of them set you back? i went on their site but they didn't have many specs for the drop deck.

dude get a top mount!! great to learn on and free ride. once you can footbrake on a top mount you can do anything! also no chance you will snap a board they are made to last an atomic bom landing on them.

Dude get somethin that feels comfortable. something u can actually feel ur feet on. personaly ive ridden boards from Earlys old mondo top mount with fuk nada on the concave, evo, chinook, drop speed, spud, drop wedge, battle axe(bamboo), quebeek jim z i think? all boards have a purpose and u have to decide wat one will best suit ur ridding. if ya thinking of tryin different things out contact Jeremy Rodgers at Early. im currently in love with the drop speed but for a big guy u may find the platform a lil short. hardware, well again bra, all shit responds different went applied differently ah. ive been bombin on all things from indys, invaders, randle downhill, r2 reverse hanger, jim z, smokeys, and the grizzlys. again im really lovin the predictability that the grizzley offer. as far as bushings go well, buy a heap and try em out.

Cool, everyone seems to like this OMNI deck, might take a look (EDIT: just saw the photos on the next page....looking sick! Which sites have them? or any reviews anywhere???). I've saved about $350 which might be enough for it because the Evo is $465 approx. I'm about 5"7-8 so the evo is a good height though. Thanks for all the replies everyone.
Also...is it better to have the lower degrees baseplate in the front or back? I'm under the impression that the lower should be at the back; so I was thinking a 42 in the front and 35 in the back or something...

Yeah normally for a deck that is flat you would have the lower degree truck at the back ( so the rear does less of the turning ). But for a wedged, dewedged deck like the evo you might have the same or a higher degree truck at the back. Because the wedging at the front increases the angle of the truck while the dewedging at the back decreases the original angle of truck. So the end result still equals more angle at the front and less in the rear

I've got one setup up with JimZ's and they take my Smokies aswell. Dunno who fed you the bit about not accepting prec. trucks. Not only that you can always ride em topmount.
Also, (this applies to everyone starting out) if you're new to footbraking, topmounts will give you mega thigh cramps with every extra inch you need to squat into a brake. Why do you think the pro's started designing lowered decks in the first place.
Sure some guys ride topmounts, but they're spono'd to the eyeballs and paid to ride them.

at 5'8" you're a lucky buggar. You'd prob fit any longboard on the market.
Just remember. Stable (low angle truck) for the rear. If you want something versatile and fun, go with something turny (like 50deg) front. 35deg front rips for max speed but is deadshit boring for cruising and carving.
You can always tighten the front to take on the hills.
Like leigh said, save dosh on your bearings and invest in a good bushing kit. This is will open a whole new world to you riding with all the variety it puts in your setup. Make sure the bushes you buy though suit your trucks. ie tall bushes for randals etc.

the OMNI drop deck is available through hopkin.com.au i will add them to the list over the weekend and should be available for purchase on monday. I set one up yesterday with Gullwing chargers and the new o-tang freeride proto wheels and it rides like a treat. Its got the same basic shape as an evo without the de-wedged back so you can still use it for carving and cruising around at slower speeds, and because of the drop its still damn stable. i like to ride my carving boards loose as all fuck and really pushed this one to the limit. we all know chargers are damn turny and this board seemed to be solid as a rock while macking in full tuck down pariwi road this arvo and still felt very alive while i was doing stand up slides on a quick corner session with hop yesterday arvo. It feels nice and light so its easy to throw it around, and although it doesnt have the same 'deep/sharp' concave as the evo does the width at the front is just enough to allow full control over the steering. i'll do a full review with photos later over the weekend.
it will cost less then $150 thats for sure...

dont worry about the different degree baseplates front and back. Let the shape of the board perform its function on one set of trucks. Thats the way its designed, to give you more at the front and less at the back.
Evo's were designed for stock 35 deg plates. +22* front. -22* rear.
