You have to see what ply to use... there's a million different types, some better than others etc.
Having a look at most of the presses, you just clamp the shit out of them and either wet it or steam it.
I've helped a mate at school bend his at school with a cup of hot water and paint tins, decent kick and stuff.
Hit up the board builders group on here.
Peace
Hey there, you serious about building a board just reply to this and I'll fill you in..... Ive been building for years and know most and it isnt that hard. Start with thin say 3.5mm boards and a jig. 4 layers usually does it and never wet the timber...this just blows out the wood and creats weak ponts. you have to plan first and mind that the wood will slip round while glueing. Mr. Plywood has a product that will do the job. a sheat usually costs arround $70 and should make 3 long boards or 6 short.....

Good luck
hey, ye really am, what is the wood?

i've just pressed my first two boards and am by no means an expert, hope this helps. i've experimented with hoop pine and something called marine ply (1.5mm 3 ply).

The thinner the plys you get, the more you can shape the board, and the less de-lam.
The hoop pine looks good, but it was difficult to work with. it kept on fraying along the edges, cosmetic damage mostly, but kinda ruins the board.

the marine ply was easier to work with, but the wood's colour wasn't as pretty =]

also, if you can, go for a rotary cut. (as opposed to the um... joint cut.)

if someone outthere has better suggestions, remember, sharing is caring! =]
hey, i looked on Mr Plywood, but what am i looking for, the thinnest ply i found was some structural grade hoop pine @ 1.5mm thickness, or what do u think?
or do you know anywhere i can just get some good old canadian maple??? wait, wont that be like heaps expensive
???
the 3mm hoop pine from there is fine, I would only get the 1.5mm if your making a drop deck with some gnarly bends. You will also get two boards out of a 3mm sheet where you will really only get one from the 1.5mm. I have never had any trouble working with hoop pine ply, to me it seems just the same as any other plywood.

Briggs veneers has maple but it is expensive

Sorry guys, The stuff you want is 3.5mm ply. 3 equal layers ....... what it is called I cant remember but I know they have it in Hornsby. The trick is to NOT use water and lay up the baords pre-cut sheets in rough size. I will try and download a pic of jig in action.

the end product looks sick! i wanted to cut something hammer-head-like-yours but was scared the end bits would jsut snap off or get wheelbite.
Try it ... its fun and if you plan thing properly you can make the cutout where thewheels will turn. Also depending on where you locate the trucks on the arc you can make the angle greater and get a better turn ..... makes a carve stick basicly .... This configuation will take a load of 130kg that I know for sure and I expect even greater...
I am toying with the idea of adding a foot grip .... no idea how yet ...... expect it will be front foot only .......

enjoy ...
