ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

ok im gonna start off by saying i have thought about this psot and can see no reason to get an onslaught of sarcastic and offensive comments from jacko or others who know more than me :-D

ok so i want to get an idea about trucks for going fast.

heres what i think the foodchain looks like:
to start im going to put these at the top because i know not much about them and dont know where to put them but that mischo rides em and he jtus won the world series ------------->
 trucks with uber wierd and hyped up designs : fyres and the new elusive bear trucks. ignor this categorie for now i just put it in because i had heard of them
->
Precision trucks: kahalani, magun, smokies etc.
->
DH cast trucks(im not really sure about these):  crail.. any others?
->
Wide hangar rev kingpin (possibly the same as those above?): randal paris bear gullwing 180s paris 195 etc.
->
super wide normal style trucks like indy 215 and tracker 219 or whatever they are claled
-->
nothing else is used for downhill?

ok so if/when i get a downhill/fast freeride board i know that precisions are out of my price ranger and i like reverse kingpin so i will be looking at DH specific cast trucks and standard rev kingpin trucks.

what i have no idea about is baseplates
i get that the higher the angle, the more turn you will get e.g. 90 degree would just be wierd and 0 degree probably woudlnt turn that much at all.
i think that 50 degree is the standard for most carving trucks but that randal do heaps of baseplates and bears can be flipped or something?
whats up with different baseplate combos? like i see pepople say Hellcat/randal 50/42 and wheels
what does that mean
also what are prandals?

appreciate anyone who responds :-)

This won't answer your questions about brands etc but it will give you a good idea on the way trucks work and why.

prandals are paris hangers on randal plates, it means you can get lower degree trucks with some of the best cast hangers out there, so you can get randal 42 deg plates and put some paris 195 or 180 hangers on it
Precisions are just a wank for people who have too much money. (Or have sponsors!)
42* randal plates with 180 randal hangers is where its at. Cheap, strong and simple. Why pay more?
The different baseplate angles. The lower the angle (35*, 42* compared to 50*) creates less turn for the lean.
I tried a DILLIGAF with 35* Force trucks on it and it was solid as, not easy to turn at all. with the less turn, it means more stability. Some people have lower angle trucks (42*, 35*) on the back of the board to increase stability and grip.
Personally I can't be bothered. I have 42* 180 randals all round and its all you need. Want a different feel? Buy different bushings, not entire new trucks.
Hope this helps a bit man.
I've only gotten into skating in the past 6 months max. Trust me, you pick it up so fast! Try to get together at races and sessions and stuff, everyone is so friendly they should let you try their boards. You can get a feel for all these different mods without buying them!
To go fast, you don't need expensive gear, you need experience.
thanks all that helps :)
just buy a set of randals or paris's, whack some stim or barral bushings that are over 80a in them and hey presto a DH truck thats going to be stable and your going to be able to have fun on for years, when you want to go in the DH department deping on your deck you can upgrade to different plates etc, if you buy a deck with wedgeing built in then you should take that into consideration. but if its your first DH trucks get some randals or paris's i personally love randals to death and they serve me well
aeras are not cast trucks, they are CNC'd

and also, your a NOOOOOOB (thats for putting my name in that sentence at the start, mwahahaha)
i fixed it :-)
haha i couldnt think of anyone else who was as consistent with techinically correct and completely sarcastic repsonses to dumb threads on here ;-)
