pole mounted cameras

ok so i think i have a basic idea as to how im going to make it now
i was just wandering if anyone had pictures of the baseplates they use in there backpacks to mount the pole
or the hook system to attach the camera
also the maximum weight the camera should be
help is much appreciated guys

ok this should get u started. keep in mind i have access to a bunch of tools including welders n shit and a lot of materials so doing a home made job can get tricky without the propper know how...

thats my baseplate with the pole inserted...

i have cut that block of wood on the bottom to fit snug into the cammel-back in the pocket on the bottom of the bag where the 'bladder' goes. and i was lucky enough to find one with a zipper on the front the pole can stick out of

i got and old tripod and took the legs off to make the pole, stuck two together and used a piece of metal as a splint to strengthen it up so it doesnt wobble around too much, then used other bits of the tripod as the 'hook' and taped that onto the end and bent it into a U shape then wrapped it with duct tape

that should get you started. I know steve used hiking sticks for the pole or you could even use ski poles or extendable walking sticks or something. if you dont have access to metal and welders you can build your baseplate out of wood. all u need to do is get a flat base and cut it to the shape of your bag then attach another piece of wood on top of that then drill a hole into that to slot your pole into, and make sure it is angled upwards a bit so you get clearance from your head

You could also use an old fishing rod, say dia 20mm and drill a hole directly into a slab of wood to be used as the base.
Glue the rod into the deep hole you drilled. Insert the base into a camel back style backpack.

I've never in my entire life seen a 20mm thick fishing rod bend even so much as a single mm.

you guys do realise that there is not a handy cam on the end of the pole, you first need a bullett/lipstick camera and something to record the image onto.

Yeah i saw jacko's. I just thought fibreglass rod would go better than alum tube. Drilled directly into the block.

you could use a handy cam, if you pole was strong enough, your camera was light enough, and you were keen enough to risk it on the end of a stick while burling down a hill at 80k's...
