ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

There's a two-page spread about downhill skateboarding and Skate Australia in today's Sunday Mail.
Seems to be pretty damn positive.

The cops should be dealing with the drunk dickheads beating people up in the streets of Bris and Goldy, and preventing those same twits from killing innocent people with their 2 ton 400bhp douche mobiles.

I sure feel safe at night knowing they are chasing skateboarders instead of dealing with the REAL social problems we are currently facing.

The kind of item the GC news is running (not so much the courier mail) is bad for us because it gives some people an excuse to put us in even more danger.
I swear I am going to be really fucked off if a cop harms a hair on anyones head,.... especially if anyone tries to run us off the road.

I DO love the way our community is a goldmine for lazy journos though. :D hahahahaaaaa
Woooooohoooooooo go matty!

I agree. Except I'm not too concerned about this type of publicity. Sure, it gives the entrenched haters more ammunition, but it's mostly just good exposure. And the comments on the story are great, and so is the photo gallery. Good to see Jase again - hey Jase, you're looking fast up there.

And a massive cheer to the Courier Mail and Dadbrow - that's a rad story!
as far as Im concerned there is no such thing as an illegal skateboard race.

if 20 cyclists decide to run a night of races is that an illegal cycling race?

No,... but an illegal cycling race just sounds lame. hahahahaaaaa

Jase is a legend!
EVERYONE Ive met in qld is a legend :) ........and the whole crew is just so relaxed and positive.
Its skater paradise, ....and they cant take it away from us.
God, don't even get us all started on cyclists!
Why to they get to ride on our roads in huge packs and we're not? Even if we are wearing a helmet...
I think it's because those cyclists are middle aged men who have a fair amount of money in their Lycra pockets...
after being involved with skating since around '77, globally anything that doesn't mention skateboards with, hooligans, death, dangerous to the public, illegal activity, bag snatching (there was a time in London), is good publicity and the publicity, on the whole, from the Gold Coast from those that have seen the chances and made the breaks has been pretty good.
BUT, for the younger crew, it takes bloody years to make skating acceptable to the point where the police love you and the council like you putting on races, in the meantime Daddow and the crew are just letting people know what we do where we do it and why we have to do it when we do.
We know there is a difference between responsible skating and helmets without helmets but the public doesn't; education is good.
Patience and toleration are hard things to nurture, man, sometimes we have to be like Gandhi on wheels
