ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hey guys,
I'm new to skating and am thinking about getting into downhill. I was wondering what would be the cheapest setup i.e board and helmet and where from.
any other tips or sites would be much appreciated thanks for the help
cheers
Jake

hey jake! you might wanna check out the omni boards at hopkins or you could always wait around for someone to sell off their decks. Get yourself a half shell, pads and make some gloves, practice footbraking and some shutdown slides ie: coleman slides before you invest in a fullface and leathers. Meet up with some of the local crew you can learn alot.

Boardshop.com.au is having a sale on protec helmets and pads at the moment.
Hey Jake, mate the best thing you could do would be find a crew in your area. Someone always has a spare board and we all love to share the stoke. Most important is safety though get yourself a good helmet and pads. I prefer the fullface myself but each to their own. One warning once you start there aint no turnin back you will be hooked.
Hey thanks for the info guys,
I saw the omni pintail on Hopkin.com.au and it is in my price range. Is it a good beginner board?
cheers
The omni pintail would be a good starter board for carving and very light downhill.
I would be looking at the omni drop 43, if you put some chargers/randalls/bears into it with some soft bushings its a great carving/sliding board, and as soon as you feel confident enough to hit some faster runs you can chuck in some harder bushings and have a great downhill board.

Padded shorts saved my ass.
Literally

As protection is the most important thing for you as a beginner. I would suggest buying a helmet, Knee + elbow pads and possibly a pair of bomb shorts.
(padded shorts for when you crash, protects your hips, and bum)

ConcreteLines sell triple 8 helmets for $59.95 plain colours or $65.95 for glossy colour.
They also have a good selection of slide gloves.
and what a fashion statement!
Haha shorts seem like a good idea.
I am on hopkin.com.au and am trying to use the board buidler function but it doesnt work... they dont sell the drop 43 as a complete ??
cheers
man welcome to the sport, if u think u are pretty keen on the sport i would get a decent downhill deck from the start cause i bought a sector 9 and it was a sketchie downhill board so i ended up buying a second setup only a few months later.
I dont think the drop 43 comes as a complete, go in and talk to hop at the hopshop, have a look at some different trucks and wheels see what you like the look of. I would reccomend some bear grizzly 8mm trucks and some otangs or similar wheels.
Good luck finding the right setup.

You kind of live in the middle of us all, you should get in touch with the sunshine coast guys and I think theres a couple in Redcliffe as well as us in Brisbane.
Also make sure to check out the estate in Mango Hill, you should be able to find a nice run on that butter smooth stuff.
For Leathers go to HiSide Leathers HiSide - he's the only guy selling 2nd hands for quite a distance.
For Full Face helmets TBSM is the way to go TBSM Fullface helmets
For all your other skate gear, go to
Hopkin Racing
Boardshop
and Ado from Cre8tive Sk8 (you will have to phone him up)
