Event Description

The slalom season ends with giant slalom at the Pump Station.

The Course
We plan to have the first ever full-length slalom race at the Pump St, with cones loose enough to ride a longboard.

Race Format
This will be a jam, which means that everybody will have a certain number of timed runs down the course, with the fastest run determining the winner. Get there early for practice so you can make the most of your timed runs.

The Start
For the first time at the Pump Station we'll use a 5 foot high start ramp to launch people at the first cone.

Start ramp details
Top transition: 1.2 metre radius
Straight section: 800 mm at 45 degrees
Bottom transition: 2.4 metre radius

How to get there
The location of the Pump St is known only to the initiated. All are welcome to attend, but first you have to find out where it is. Contact either me, Mountain Mick, Trav, or Robbo for details and the secret handshake.

Pump St Etiquette
1. Don't park in driveways or anywhere a local resident might not like.
2. Take all your rubbish with you when you leave.
3. Be nice to dogs, small children and all other creatures.
4. Everything else.

Can I race?
Yes, but you have to:
(a) Be a financial ASRA member. You can join up on the day, or you can do it now.
(b) Pay the $20 race entry fee on the day.
(c) Wear a helmet and gloves. Pads are a good idea too.

This is great stuff for slalom tech heads. But all this info will soon be lost in the ASRA vault. Now that ASRA is downhill dominated (not that theres anything wrong with that) someone should start a slalom group as individual threads get lost in the main section. Um I guess I did it. Join the Slalom group!

38"x10" 19"wb double kick pool deck.
Randal 150 hangers. 35rear 55front plates. Supertight rear, superloose front.
A stack of truck risers to get 75mm wheels under without biting and my giaint feet around the cones. Cones get smaller the higher you go ;)

should have ridden my normal setup like i normally do at space station races
but instead rode.
sk8 kings jester like mick (choice of champions! actually a really nice deck for bigger hills!) except with paris 150's (50 degree wedged another 7 or so front and 35 dgree dewedged a couple of degrees back) 78a bush front, 92 back with sector 9 race wheels and crowbar toestop.
This setup felt so good to ride and could go way faster than what space station has to offer as it was super stable and just felt a dream, however sacrificed a bit of pumpability at the slow top. I actually had my normal slalom board with me but this set up felt so good to ride i stayed with it,

My setup...
Deck: Hopkin Roadster
Front truck: Radikal, with 8 deg wedge to make around 53 deg. Blue Radikal and 75A Gumball bushings.
Rear truck: Splitfire with Fitz spherical in pivot, dewedged from 35 down to about 27 deg. Pink Venom barrels.
Wheels: Lemon/Lime BigZigs

It's basically my regular slalom setup, but wedged to take turn out of the front and rear, and also firmer bushings to deal with the increased leverage and higher speeds.

Pocket Pistols Chicken Dagger, Splitfire front 55* orange reflex barrels, Otang In heat orange and purp. Tracker RTS rear lots of dewedge, with, I noticed after, bent axles and after I hit one of those blue catseyes a bent kingpin!

Thanks to everyone who came out for this race and all the other races of the Conehead Cup 2010.

It was a good year with some solid numbers. From memory about 40 people raced the ditch in Canberra and we had 36 or so at the Space Station. Very cool.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in and the various crews who organised races - NACCOS, MOSS, CROSS, Townsville peeps and BMB. And of course to everyone who counted and picked up cones - they were numerous at times...

I had a blast this year and loved the mix of races - tight slalom, hybrid, giant, Super Giant, and of course the ditches. We'll see what happens next year. At this stage we are not sure whether we will have a full series or not. Ideas are of course welcome.

See you at the next one...
