i definatly think they should take a step backwards... maby change the rules about protective gear? not only will this save your knees, hands and head it will push the companies that make these things to make more comfortable and safer plastics. we should have a nation wide go skate day and we should definitly get news there and speak out about this... there is so many better ways to make the sport "safer"
Yeah I mean its not are problem that your goverment aint going to make more than 100,000 jobs this year, no need to take it out on skateboarders.
I think that in a lot of cases night time is better because of less traffic. They want to give you guys a curfew.
So how many people work or go to school during the day?? Kind of a bit rude to tell anyone my age to pack it up because its dark. I WORK WHEN ITS LIGHT. I relax and exercise in the evening.

Making a law about being visible at night is understandable,... it meets her concerns, flat out banning without even potentially giving skaters a chance to wear reflective gear or led lights is just a spiteful crack down.

One other thing that the statistics show is that skateboarding is a recreational activity of people on holiday.
Seems to go against the feel of QLD. I suppose they dont need tourist dollars. Or maybe they just want to sting tourists for more.
oh! another idea... we all chip in for some black paint... we paint all the lines on the road and change all of the road singns to 50... problem solved! haha
I’m only new to the DH, since i have started i have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of great people. Not really knowing a lot about the sport before i guess i was a little naive, but know that i know i correct any one who puts the sport down by saying were all trouble makers and hot heads, yeh hot heads are around but what sport doesn’t have them, that’s life!

This is the opinion of a lot of people out there because it is not main stream and people don't know!!! But as shit as the new laws are it also could be a positive, not that i really know how to do it but it is now in the press, if we were somehow to come together and stand up real soon it would grow even bigger in the press, it could be a chance to stand up there say hay well we are about safety and have ideas to make it safer, we are people who want the sport to thrive, and we want to live life and that’s why we skate.

The question is how we do this in a positive way, let people know that there is a world circuit out there and we as Australians want to achieve, do well and win. That like surfers it’s about the feeling you get and we want to go out and skate when we can just as surfers can. (God bless surfing as well). And hay I know my main method of Transport is skating now. Night and day, and as fast as I can!

More then anything i just want to say if there is any thing i can do to help turn this into something positive then im there!
I Love the stats that have been put out there and agree, I love the idea’s about hi vis at night, hehe and I love the idea of getting together and having a freeride, but it needs to be positive!! i think then good things will happen to the sport.

Here's a precedent:

I wonder whether this has actually been triggered by "dangerous" skateboard/rollerblade/scooter riding or whether it is merely driven by a desire to standardise road rules across all states. My understanding is that if this law is introduced Queensland will have exactly the same legislation as NSW (and a few other states, if not all). In other words, this is probably not something to get too worked up about.

But it does beg the question of why our elected politicians seem to spend an inordinate amount of time legislating against activities which are completely harmless. As several people have pointed out the Transport Minister has not pointed to any statistics to back up her assertions that these laws will protect skaters. Indeed, it seems there are a great deal many other activities/sports with higher injury rates.

Perhaps this is a good opportunity for ASRA to start engaging more with local and federal politicians? We are on it...
wonder how much a road would cost?

Do you wanna be riding the same road all the time? surely it would be unreal, but you'd get sick of it after a while! people are still gonna hit public roads regardless. look how many skate parks there are but dudes still look for new terrain and wax up the nearest plant box despite there being a terrain park down the road! it's the laws that matter! Cyclists are absolute pests to cars with esky lids for helmets. surely our approach to safety gives us more of a right to bomb a hill than some dude dressed in licra bike shorts and a foam watermelon on his head! it's strength in numbers that matters, and this forum is getting the numbers that count! if we all unite we can maybe change things our way! keep in mind even rugby league players cannot get insurance for what they do no matter how much a part of Aussie culture it is.
Just spoke to Haggy - he was interviewed by ABC Radio this morning on this subject, and the interview will be aired on ABC Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast radio this morning at about 9.30am.

So listen if you can, and if somebody can record it that would be great
ABC Radio Coast listen online

No pressure Haggy, we are all listening.
maybe get in contact with hack on triple j? this affects a fairly large percentage of the youth population so they would most likely be keen to hear our side of the story. as someone mentioned earlier more people die on the ski fields or cycling on our roads, I wonder how much money we have to pump into the economy before they leave us alone as well? you have our support haggy!
