i know ben, just dont understand what harm has been done to inspire them to create these laws, the local leauges club has police and ambulance attending numerous times a night every wed, thur frs and saturday night but they dont get banned out lawed
fuck the police. just keep skating untill they are cool with it. eventually they will give in and turn it around. its a matter of time and persistance. if you get a fine, pay it with bills you wiped your ass with and hit the hills again
Indeed I read the article in the paper about the new laws regarding night skating aswell. It will take about a year before every officer in Qlds can remember it and actually give you a fine. But still myself and a mate were skating at about 1 in the morning.when we finshed up and were walking through a train station with pads on and carrying helmet and boards to go home. and of course a cop passes right at this moment and thinks were vandles, first question is what are you doing at this time in the morning duhhh were skating."why so late and we explained we work at the same place and finished late so went for a skate simple as that. The thing was they were on a call out to a party that was playing music so loud you could here it across the town. They still take the time to bug two boys clearly skating, got to have shit for brains to not know what we were doing with knee pads, elbow pads and gloves on. The thing was the attitude we got towards doing something so innocent and the stuff the police were saying to us like "do you want me to take you back to your mummy's house" it's time for bedtime. And to finish it off they ask if we know where the music is coming from and we point down the street in the direction where it was coming from, and they go the opposite way we said pfft.
Think of it this way, I know I do. The fine itself is roughly $20. The rest of your money paid is the 'crime levy'. This 'levy' goes to victims of crime. People who have been raped, assulted and robbed. All the people who have their houses burnt down by arsonists each month all get a little bit of your $50 fine. ($30 levy)

If you look at it this way, then the more often you get caught bombing hills, the more good you are doing for your community.

In theory you should try to claim it back on tax as a charity donation. It helps me sleep better at night.
maby we should put a statement into the qld government trying to get them to change it, even if we have 2 wear helmet lights at nightit would be worth it
you need to move to Sydney the cops are much nicer!
a few weeks back Nick and I were luging at Bong Bong. Nick just headed down the hill with me following in the car. A cop car passed us and was waving at us. I thought he wanted us to stop but the wave he gave was like he was just saying hello. Any way we thought fuck it and just kept hammering down so as not to spoil the run. We waited at the bottom for them but they never came so we turned around and headed back to the top. They were parked behind one of our cars. I did a U-turn and pulled up infront. We sat there and waited and waited but all they did was sit in their car chopping down fish and chips. We went up to them and they said... don't stop cause of us! then they had a chat about the sport. They then said they would go down the hill and watch us from the bottom. Just as we were about to go another cop car came. The first cops told us to wait while they got rid of the 2nd cops. They told them everything was cool and eventually the second cops left. The first cops then said alright you can ride again now. We then rode down that hill at 110km p/hr for next 3hrs while the cops sat with their feet on the dash cheering us on and waving each time we rode past! Best day of riding ever!!!!!!
I agree with Micheal.
Why the hell didnt they just say you have to wear lights at night? Seems like they've jumped a step. And the injuries they list in the news item are inflated. A large percentage of those injuries would come from skateparks and kids in their back yards..... And it doesnt have a reference point relating to other sports or recreational activities.

I bet we can get statistics from a lot of different sources covering sports and recreation as well as road statistics for vehicles and cycles that prove this is an unbalanced and unfair attack on skaters.

I also noticed the big signs on the Queen St mall banning skaters. Boy, someone in authority sure hates you guys in QLD.
Maybe a critical mass in Queen street mall, a protest. Im sure you can get 100 or more riders prepared to shout slogans and bomb the mall, even if they do cop a fine. Some spokespeople from our community (some older riders) and news cameras.....

Just thinkin....
If you are injured and have to present at an emergency ward or local doctor tell them you were riding a bike probably bit late now but this may help with statistics in the future.
Ohhhh man one of the best stories i have heard for a while and most jealous storey aswell. I would of asked when there on patrol next.

it would be worth a few of the qld crew to step in now while it is on the agenda and make a statement to the papers or whoever else involved atleast claiming that we have been unfairly targeted and set the record straight, people are listening to the hype so let the public kno ourside, over regulation is crippling our country....leadfoots is onto it,his idea sounds good ...mass bomb the city to show them they are kidding......just a spur of the moment thought !
Errm not really up to speed with this but does it say no riding roads with 50km/h or less? So you can go and bomb a main road at 100km/h and its ok?

I know there are hills here with no lines and a 80km/h speed limit, that would be 100% legal would it not?
