how to simply reduce the risk of neck injuries.....

If you have a look at the 8th pic down from the top; the person still on the road is actually getting a neck injury, minor or serious but they are getting one.

http://www.skateboardracing.org.au/profiles/blogs/erban-completes-h...

It is completely avoidable and comes under the heading of "SI" Self Inflicted.
Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls avoid needless neck trauma by doing your helmets up properly and tight enough for them not to shift about too much during an "oops!"
A loose helmet may look pretty cool and feel very comfortable and may indeed still help reduce head injury, but as it is an added weight to our heads a helmet during a spill adds huge amounts of tension through the neck region. This tension is balanced and so less damaging if the helmet is tightened correctly, if not the the imbalance can cause more of a twist during the fall increasing the risk of serious tissue damage and at speed worse.

thats exactly it, everyone fucks up bad one day where your number comes up and your going to get smashed so bad it tests your love for the sport. Best thing to do is take all the precautions for when it happens, ie stretching, wearing protective gear and riding as safe as you can at the end of the day if your fully padded up and wearing the gear right then if you get seriously injured its just how it happens you couldn't do anything more then what you did.
no im not saying why bother being safe i was just going to put forward the motion that sometimes shit does happen, and as much as you try to be as safe as possible and take every measure to get things happening right sometimes things happen that no matter of safety precaution can prevent. All i was saying was that if you want to completely prevent serious injury 100% then dont ride, not saying that it WILL happen if you ride but sometimes shit just goes down, and you have to be prepared for that. I like it that people are out putting up safety tips and pointers but you just have to realised that there is a chance of something still going wrong and it would suck if (for example) someone thought they were 100% solid and safe and something did happen then they have to deal with it. Take that secquence of will for instance. He had his helmet done up tight and propper, i know this guy and hes not reckless at all and always is safety first, but theres a photo of his helmet coming off, even though it was done up tight and secure, shit happend.
I wasnt trying to discourage anyone or throw a comment back in their face all i was saying is this is a dangerous sport and sometimes things happen that are way out of our control... As i said ride safe and chances of those injuries happening are less but sometimes shit does go down and you have to be prepared for that, and when the time comes you deal with it... This can be an extremely deadly sport when pushing the limits and not having respect for what could happen...
Like i said to Steve the other day if your a surfer you want to surf the best break and that break is located on a reef you take that chance to go out and surf it, theres the risk your going to get dominated in doing this. Its like skating if you have got all the saftey equipment on and want to skate the ideal road that will push your limits theres the risk you take in doing so if you do come off, like Jacko said shit just goes down.
I think Aych is simply saying from a professional point of view, if you have a crash you will likely get some sort of whiplash type injury to the neck maybe minor maybe not. If you make sure your helmet fits and is done up tight you will reduce the chances of this happening and/or lower the degree of whiplash and you will be able to skate more. Aych is not saying shit don't go down, he is just saying when it does, which is often, keep everything tight and your less likely to be nursing a fucked up neck for 5 days and more likely to be skating hills.

Guff is just reinforcing the fact in they way guff does that it takes no additional effort to do this so your dumb if you don't.
thanks for clearing that up
shit happens! all the time, you could get run over by a car crossing the road, but what do we do ? stay in bed ? i dont think so we take every measure to not get run over but shit happens! so just take care out there & be as safe as possible.

No safety gear no ride even worse wearing safety gear and not fitting it correctly(you knob) maybe it is old age that is getting to me but i have made good friends within skating and cannot think of anything worse than picking a mate off the ground knowing that i maybe could have done something to stop it remember we have had things like this happen and you would think by now we have learned i know there are people who say it is my life and i can do what i want , well good for you fuckwit try gettin to the hospital with half your brains on the ground and yeah your girlfriend wont miss you she will find someone else to fuck but with brains like yours she was already fuckin someone else anyway Baaaa Haaaaa fuckin limp dick brain damaged quadraplegic

yeah well i was stupid back then didnt know right from wrong and now im paying for it, but you leave jessica out of this we broke up because we never really had that connection not because of my accident thats a cheap shot dude id expect a bit more respect than that, ive had to deal with a lot already mate..................... wear a helmet
definitely not directed at anyone in particular dont even know the dude in the shot probably went a bit overboard in my post ...glad to see he is ok and still skating and yeah shit happens i crash a fair bit and what it has taught me is to look at my crashes not only how they happenned but what i did in the crash and what my gear did .I would even say to dudes go out and find a corner with no cars and go into it too hot and practice laying it down because when it is the real thing you will know what to do if you are too used to running out in the bowl or are scared of crashing you will probably have a higher risk of injury.I am pretty lucky i skate with a good crew who have helped me along the way with teqnique and safety some people may not have this luxury worst case they might be sitting at home on a computer living in the mountains somewhere skating by themselves or about to roll the board that they bought last week but couldnt afford a helmet so yeah my post was probably directed at them.
none of us kno anything about your incident andre,so no chance anyone was talkin about you dude...cheers

this is a pretty gnarly thread...
you really should just do up your helmet and if you got safety gear, wear it.
