Hello,
I want to get into skating. I'm an avid snowboarder but living in Australia I don't get much opportunity to snowboard as much as I want to. I'm after a basic longboard where I can just cruise around on and use it as a form of basic transport i.e. going to the shops. I'm not looking to go downhill or do many tricks, just after a nice cruisy board where I can just kick and push to and from.
My question is which sort of board should I be looking for and what gear would I need as well? Recommendations for a light weight helmet as well?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Brendan,
I cruise on 42" globe pinny I picked up 2nd hand cheap. The mods I have made are getting bigger and softer wheels (72mm 75a). Find a good skate shop like good time in Brisbane go in and try the boards until you find one you like.
My hemet is my old snowboard helmet that does not cover my ears so i can hear the cars.

if your into snowboarding might want to give freeboarding a look it won't get you from point a to b but it will keep you boarding
Get yourself a landyachtz ripple ridge with some soft duro bushings, and maybe some round lip wheels, just in case you feel the urge to pop a little standy.
freeboards are epic as fuck.... but they are kinda slow and not great to push around on..... if you have plenty of good hills where your at then they are great but places like victoria they are not the best things going thats for sure
