I
may have discovered the best way to deal with road rash. It's a product called either
Tegaderm or
IV3000 and it's a very thin transparent membrane that you place directly over the wound. You leave it on for up to a week, and it's waterproof and you can shower in it etc.
It keeps the wound moist so it doesn't form a scab. Road cyclists use it (they have long and extensive experience with road rash).
If you buy it from the chemist it's very expensive (about $5 for one piece), but a pack of 100 costs about $100. I've found myself a supply and am currently testing it out. So far so good.
