Hi all,
I think, I'm about to come onto the possesion of some 2nd hand smokies,
to clean the sphericals i figure just flush them out, like wheel bearings.
What about the lube?
are they self lubeing ( molybdenum impregnated) so you run them "dry"
or
do they need lubein with a "wet" lube (speed cream)
or "dry" lube (powdered graphite, "wax" bike chain lube).
Thanks,
Wayne.

im no expert but i wouldnt put graphite powder in there, on my radikal truck sphericals i put a smidge of speed cream or sewing machine oil and work it in, but not regularly and i only really started after riding them in the rain.
Yep.
Degreaser orange oil to clean. Acetone or metho for final wrinse. Airblast em to dry off.
Smokie shericals have a lube ring in the outer race. Pack it with synthetic grease. Speed cream creams good but drains off where as grease stays in place. Smear some with you finger around inner ball aswell before you put em back in. Mineral base oil and grease will gradually eat your bushes and shorten the rebound life. You can get syth grease from bike shops.
Pretty sure Smokie sphericals are chrome plated outer ring whereas Radikals are solid stainless. Either way lube (dry or wet) helps keep that silky smooth action.
congrats on your buy wayne :)
