Members section.

I know this has been raised before, but. The amount of crap you have to trawl through to get to something worth wile reading or watching on ASRA these days is ridiculous! I hardly ever bother anymore. what about a filter or private area for paid up members? Just a thought, and yeah i know elitism rarara.

Cog-gon. You should go back & take a good look at the months & months of your mindless ramblings & postings we had to put up with on here when you first blew in,so before you start sling shit at others or making more dumb comments....check your own baggage.
Lets hear some more intelligent comments & ideas on this topic, or has everyone burned out already.

I've been tossing this idea around for a while, and I'm still unsure about it. The only feasible solution I can see is to create an invite-only Group for financial members. Members would be able to create discussions inside the Group, and could also post on the Group Wall. Non-members would be able to read all that content, but could not post to it.

There are two things I fear:

  1. Nobody would post to it, and
  2. It would be a bitch to administer, because members come and go, and the email addresses people give when they become a financial member are not always going to be the same email address they sign up to the site with.

In other words, it might be a lot of work for little or no benefit. I'm on the fence.

sounds nice and rosey, but very eliteist, I believe all that it would do is encourage a division in the longboard scene. and I dont think that is a wise thing to do intentionally, all us noobs need to be schooled by the core, it isnt that hard to ignore silly posts, or tell the poster that they are being stupid.  you would end up having a king of the noobs giving out wrong info that all the other noobs would take for gospel.

when did the longboard community want to start distancing itself from beginners? 

 

this is my opinion, for what it is worth anyway. YES I am a financial member.

I think that the issue in your point 2 it could be resolved, and group membership administration made easier  if all members are simply removed from the group on the 1st July each year, and added back as they renew.

If the website "engine" has capacity for script or coding to allow automation of registering group membership (or sending the group invite) via a link to membership payments, it would be easier again.

If that automation can happen without too much effort, there could also be a secondary financial members group to allow non-public discussion.  This could be useful for controversial road safety discussions and event planning, not to mention some political/funding stuff that might need broader discussion in the future.  As to having private groups creating an opportunity for private backstabbing or bitching, that would be a risk, but financial members should be expected to rise above that sort of behaviour. 

If something like this increases the incentive to pay, then employing a paid administrator might also become possible.

would it be possible to apply a simple filter by marking financial members profiles and applying that filter at the members prompt to hide all the non financial members posts etc. I would like to still be able to choose to see the noob posts, and, would like the preference not to see them at times and focus on what the people that pay have to say

Phil, I don't think it would be too elitist, because everybody would have access to all content in the members area. Nobody would be excluded from reading it, only from posting to it. 

People can already create a private group, and some people have, for example the Adelaide group. The members section would be far more open than that.

Bernie, our ability to automate things is not as great as we might wish...

I understand what you're saying, but the simple answer is no, we don't have that level of control over the platform to do that. If we do decide to do something it's gonna be quite rudimentary.
