theres one in perticular that the luge guys seem to have difficulty with in canberra, it has nearly ended 4 or 5 lugers and Me, Dave M and Henry have all bailed on it hard.

actually it was probly the firt road henry bailed on and it torn shraight through his brand new leathers and into his skin, also he has had bearings sieze on it explode off and throw him, haven't ridden it since last summer before newtons.
if your talkin a----o rd dude,id agree in saying the canberra crew are the most hard up for hills to skate,.specially when your riding on that stuff...dude i kno heaps of epic hills all within an hour of my house that have never been ridden coz there too rough to bother...but theyd be still more fun than that rd!!........that chattery righty with the guardrail is definately gunna kill someone oneday,.
you should still try rough roads. I think a good skater should be able to skate anything.
with the exception of the road that Benbro and Owen are talking about, which is not only rough but violently fast. (unless you're Sean, that can do it in his sleep and can jump the cattle grid at speed...)

roughest rd i've done was Bobbin Head rd in Sydney. soo rough its pretty slow and dicey. Spent most of the time moving my back foot to the centre of the board as it vibrated to the sides and not being able to stand on my front leg for a few minutes as it went numb with vibration... its still experience though.
i can handle it to a degree,...its that consistently chattery old bitumen that is no fun...slow and annoying,..
Holes and rough spots, cracks and stuff ,you can deal with, especially if theres a clean line thru it somewhere, can add a bit more fun to a hill,...
its not a matter of not being able to skate it trav, more that i do this for fun and i choose not to,coz its not enjoyable...anyone can skate it,but noone does!
yeah. there's rough and there's rough. the ones that feel like your riding on rough cobblestone pavement are rideable but just not fun. we've got a shitload of rough roads in Adelaide like that, some we've tried, others we just haven't bothered with. the other style of rough road are the runs with cracks, manholes and other crap on relatively smooth pavement. in my opinion they are what make you a better skater. the pavement allows you to skate like you normally would except you have to constantly adjust your tuck and use your legs as suspension to account for whatever random crack your about to hit through a corner.

but of course if there is nothing else to ride, then i guess you just gotta put up with the consistently rough shit.
thats the one ben, I don't mind it as it means you can't just take any line. but to be honest would much prefer to ride kiera anyday of the week.
Ahh, you guys are soft!!! If you think that one in ACT is bad, you should try the one around the corner - higher speeds, more undulations, sketchy even for me and luge!

But seriously, I've seen plenty of pictures and videos of skaters doing large chunky grained roads overseas. Not riding anything other than smooth roads does limit the number of hills you can do severely - like Trav and others say, riding more different hills and surfaces expands your skills and can be fun just to do something different. I've done some crazy rough roads, but more for the challenge and to have 'conquered' another hill.

That said, I can understand the attitude that its not as much fun, and if you're doing it mainly for fun avoiding rough makes sense - If I rode a board I'd probably be choosey too. Sometimes I just wish more of you guys were a little less choosey - just get some 90mm flys or something! Big respect to Owen & Henry for riding some of the ACT ones.
Ive seen Dani hit 80 on that road into Penneshaw Kangaroo Island.
Typical country road,...BIG rocks in the bitumen. Roads like that you have basically no grip,... you sort of hover.
forgot to mention the Wellington Crew in NZ love their local rough hill. Considering they are surrounded by heaps of hotmixed hills, their favourite hill is the Windmill hill as they said "it chews you up and spits you out"..
its rough, narrow, super undulating and holds water; with big chunks of missing tar on the corners for good measure.

I skated this hill about 15 times and crashed 11 of those times... i didn't find it fun, but it certainly was a different challenge.

cool im not the only one, im gonna have to skate rough more just to keep up. anyway where im going with this is that iv also found really good dirt roads obviously u cant skate dirt but thats what mountain boards r for the only thing is i cant find a single bit of footage of anyone downhilling dirt roads on a mountain board so it makes me wonder if it is done at all or if it could be done. think of how we skate downhill but on dirt on a mountain board, i dont even know if u could slide one of those things
matt, myles and myslf skated a dirt road the other day... was nuts!!

I know a bunch of mountainboard crew in VIC, and you can slide them no issues, i jump on one from time to time and you can slide and stuff, Most of their racing is more boardercross sorta stuff but you can get brakes etc for them if you want to be able to control speed more. I used to ride 10 or so km dirt roads on my bike with my mate who would ride a mountainboard down them, crazy as fuck to take a turn with him
