ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Welcome to the launch of the perpetual ASRA Downhill Rankings. 2010 has seen an explosion of downhill races throughout Australia, so from this moment on we're going to start collating the results and officially ranking all downhill riders in Australia.

We will start the rankings from January 1, 2011, which means the winner of the first race next year will become the No. 1 ranked rider in Australia, at least for a little while. Subsequent races will be added, and once 12 months have passed we will start removing older results to ensure that only a rider's pervious 12 months results are included.

Which races are included?

There are four categories of races that will be included:

  1. IGSA World Cup in Australia - ie, Newton's Nation.
  2. IGSA/ASRA Australian Nationals - the IGSA limits these to one per year, and ASRA is currently in negotiations for an ASRA/IGSA Nationals in 2011.
  3. Australian Regionals - includes all legit (non-outlaw) downhill races in Australia
  4. Outlaws - the more people that attend your event, the more ranking points they are worth.

Only downhill races are included - no push races, carpark races, ditch races or slalom races.

Which people are included?

We'll collate rankings for:

I'm organising a race, and I want it to be included in the rankings. What do I do?

Do these things:

  1. Create a public event for your race on this website at least one month in advance.
  2. Run the race. There must be a minimum of 16 racers for skateboard races and 8 for luge races.
  3. Within one week of the end of the race, post the results on the Event page, along with a Podium Picture, and a short report on the event.
    The results must include:
  • Racer's first name (no nicknames!)
  • Racer's last name (no nicknames!)
  • Racer's date of birth
  • Racer's place in race.

4 Send the results to asra@skateboardracing.org.au

We encourage you to use the results spreadsheet when you send us your results.

Note: ASRA reserve the right to exclude a race for any reason. Significant doubts over the credibility/fairness of the results would necessitate excluding a race.

I thought i would share what is going on in melbourne at the moment, currently we are having an outlaw series that is going to spread over an unknown amount of events that have so far been light downhill with a little slopestyle thrown in for fun. We have a points series being tallied after each event and though the hills are not great (sub a km runs, 3 or so turns) there has been some great racing going down and thus far they have been alot of fun. The events are mainly targeted at groms, but have so far been successful for everyone involved. I am surely going to try and incorperate the open class in these events into the asra points system as well

Firstly i thank you all for answering my question. I also thank you for listing some of the things you can help potential organisers with. Maybe ASRA could put that info up on a page under their Guides heading so it is more easily accessible.

Robbo has hit the nail on the head, which is what i mean by my statement -
"I know that ASRA once said they would release a guide to help riders stage an event as they have always said that they cannot help you organise an event."
I know ASRA are available to help at events by providing equipment, insurance at a price, ect. i wasn't denying that.
What i meant is you can't help organise "ASRA is run by volunteers, their time is limited."
"What we can't do is be the chief organiser for every event in the country. People need their own organinsing teams for that."
Which is fair enough, everyone has to work to make money to live "we still need to work normal jobs".

So it comes back to me saying that if ASRA was to provide a guide this might provide just that little spark that may help a few riders out there decide to get together and try and organise their own event, and maybe even make it legitimate.

In regards to your question hop, i have to say that i was just a small pawn in a team of organisers. I am definitely not taking away any well earned respect from the other organisers in the team that put the major hard yards in.

Just as Robbo stated - "People need their own organinsing teams for that."
I think asra, since it will be an asra document, needs to put together a team of individuals who have different fields of experience to build the document. A collaboration would be the best way to go about it. Asra has organised one of the biggest races in Australia's history. ASRA also receives membership fees, something that could help fund the time to put into creating such a document. I can only assume these fees get used for other more important debts, I can only suggest that ASRA could vote on it at their next committee meeting that an appropriate amount of membership fees get allocated so that this document comes to life. I'm sure the members would greatly appreciate it.

Just wandering who are the two ordinary members on the ASRA committee? And when was the last AGM?

As long as those races meet the criteria, then yes, they will be included. We don't have any intention of excluding races because of the identity of the organisers.

Thanks. Is this the only criteria?

Only downhill races.

Announce the race on this website at least one month in advance.

Run the race. There must be a minimum of 16 racers for skateboard races and 8 for luge races.

Send the results to asra@skateboardracing.org.au within one week of the end of the race. The results must include people's full names (no nicknames!) and their placing. We encourage you to use the results spreadsheet
when you send us your results.

Cheers,

Sue

Yep, that's it, cept I've added an extra detail - the announcement of the race must be in the form of an "event" created on this site.

Seems a bit weird to add the extra detail, as it seems more common sense. What is the reason?

Is it just to stop people from posting it on the forums?

Or Is it so that everyone has an equal chance to notice the event?

Yep, it is just common sense, but that's not always so common. The idea is that people should be able to look at the Events page and see every race that's going to happen, without having to trawl through forums.
