Hell yeah

Welcome to the richest leg of downhill racing the world has ever seen. During 10 days in April the worlds best will converge on Australian shores for the start of the IGSA World Tour. Riders from North America, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia will face off against the best riders in Australia for $30,000 in cash and the title of worlds best.

It will be 10 days to examine the soul of a rider and determine if they can come out on top and take the title and the big dollars, or crash in a heap.

Welcome to the Australian World Cup leg, the richest, the biggest, and the craziest show on earth.

Just noticed that Haggy is standing on a spring board in the Scout Camp accommodation pics..hilarious!  I haven't seen a spring board at a pool since 1985.  The Scout Camp looks so Rad - this event is going to be awesome!

numbers arnt down due to the purse.

Most lugers are older, have 4 weeks leave a year and families.

most cant get 2 weeks off for a luge holliday then another week off for BTB.

Im keen to chip in for Daddo

Watching the Newtons Playground doco on TV about 3 years back is what got me back into Skateboarding.

He is always one of the first to give advise or help if asked.

Dont know Steve too well on a personal basis but as a skater he is an insperation to us all here in OZ. If he's keen to come im keen to chip in.

Owen.
The type of corporate sponsorship needed to generate funds doesnt really need to come from within the same sport like board makers etc. Big business don't really care so much so long as they get their name promoted.
Skillset sponsored luge the first yr newtons and they're recruitment agents for trade services. Red Bull is a classic example. They have fingers in many pies.
I think its already been said, rider fees aren't what make up the prize purse. So entrant uptake numbers aren't what govern the prize allocation.
On a side note. Its funny how when i used to bomb hills and tell people i did downhill the first thing they'd say was "Oh that one where you lie down and go really fast"

If comments aren't welcome here why do we bother having a forum.
The whole "shutup, be happy" attitude brings to mind dictatorship problems in the middle east.
Did you know it was the street luge community who i used to ride stand up with, that showed me Mt Keira and Mt Pano. I was the first person to aggressively ride Keira from top to bottom stand up and one of the first few at Pano. It shits me to see the divide that has crept into the sport here in Aus.
If the ego's on either side of the fence would look beyond the fancy coloured suits and shiny equipment differences, all forms of the sport would be able to prosper rather than making it into a stupid pissing contest.

I told myself I wouldn't let my self get drawn into the "discussion" on prize money . But here I go . Money is all relative to your position in life (age , career , comitments etc) , sponcers choose who they want to spend their dollars on relative to where they see opportunities for real sales . A $2000 winning cheque means a lot to an 18 yr old but to someone with the MEANS to be able to attend ( ie cost in lost earnings , airfares and expenses etc ) its bloody nothing . I have won 50,000 dollars by winning a big motor race a decade or so ago and to see us go from nothing to what we have in these 2 events is an indicator OUR sport is growing . Honestly for anyone to say they aren't coming because there isn't enough or no prize money is really beyond me . Fellow riders please don't piss me off and push the gap between street luge and standup because I spend so much time bridging this gap damned successfully and I have only started riding supine since BTB last year . Theirs no need for it and no basis of difference , we go down hills and around corners and scare ourselves shitless and enjoy it and each other in the process . Let's get the stoke back and focus on how we can all play our part in making these the 2 best events on the planet .

Frank I'm pretty sure both subsonic and five-mile are longboard companies that just happen to make butt boards not the other way around. And regardless unless there is specific sponsors for buttboard or you are willing to sponsor it yourself I don't think buttboard should get anymore then they are currently getting, after paying for insurance and amenities there is still a major shortfall after race fees are taken. Any prize money is specifically allocated due to sponsors deciding what they wish to sponsor. That's the end of it. If companies wish to sponsor a category then that's what they will do. Companies look at the bottom line and want the greatest return from events they sponsor.

frank, if you don't like it don't come, you're not going to change anything by having a winge, just exacerbating the winging luger stereotype. I'll be entering newtons simply to ride the hill.

Okay: But I'll just stick to the 2011 North American I.G.S.A. races, because I've got to head home and don't really have the time.

Maryhill Festival of Speed, World Cup Event: organised by John and Bob Ozman, both former street luge racers (Bob even competed in 2011) the latter an X-games medalist.

WinSport Canada Cup, World Cup Event, organized in large part with the help of  Bob Ozman (also Chief Steward), former X-games street luge racer and gold medalist.

Prince Edward County Gravity Fest, organized by Kolby Parks: street luge racer, winner of the classic luge class at WinSport Canada Cup, ranked 2nd in North America in both Street Luge and Classic Luge, in the world: 6th and 7th respectively.

U.S. National Championships: Organized and promoted by Bob Ozman, former x-games gold medalist in street luge.

The I.G.S.A. President Marcus Rietema is also a former competitive street luge racer.

Without street lugers, downhill racing in North America wouldn't exist.  Without street lugers encouraging the x-games to demo downhill stand up in the x-games and get it featured in the gravity games, downhill stand up racing wouldn't likely exist as it is today around the world.

You should feel thankful for street luge paving the way so you can have such awesome events around the world.  But instead you decide to kick us below the belt, marginalize us and act like it's okay.  Then when we say, "hey, this isn't right" you say, "shut up and deal".
