cam. how long have you been actually properly into downhill? how long do you want to keep skating? myself, i want to keep skating for a long time to come.so, i skate smart. i'm not being a "good goodie", i'm just being intelligent. "having fun n doing what we love" is a naive attitude to have, and it doesn't cut it when dealing with people and respecting the neighbourhoods we skate in. n you don't think people are going to call the cops? they do, i know from experience. the reason i care about what these people think is because its these people's opinions of us as skateboarders that determine whether we are welcome to skate in their neighborhood on a regular basis.
just think about it ay?

maybe we should get a discussion forum for people who wanna publish a book about being good goodies. guys you stress to much about the fuckin public n worry bout wat they think. i dont think people are that bored with their lives they are gonna call the cops. people should get over it because we are just having fun and doin wat we love.

i'm completely with you ry. guys, be grown up. we skated treetop the other day, and these old people who live on the street saw us were completely cool with us. we were super friendly, super nice and they fully approved. what they didn't approve of is "some other kids who were here the other day who were hanging onto the sides of cars to get back to the top" and then "the car was following them back down very very close". these are the exact words of the people who live on this street, the people will be cool if we're smart and nice, and the people who will call the cops when they see dumb crap. but the people who will ruin it are skaters that are not being smart. to those who were skitching, you know who you are! DON'T DO IT!! skitching in full public view is really really stupid. and if you ruin a hill, especially that hill, you will not make friends and you will not be welcome to skate with crew that know what they are doing. i know this is heavy, but this isn't a sport for dumbass punks, it for people who are switched on and know how to have repect so we can keep skating. get off the road straight away at zig if there's a car behind. smile at people when you skate. it actually makes it harder for someone to hate you if you give them a smile and a wave. its easy for them to hate you if they see you on the wrong side of the road, or your slowing them down, or you're hanging of the side of a car.
think about it.
skate smart.

Thanks Ian,

Might be able to make it out to the zigzag tmoro arvo. Skated it today though haha. And Dan, if you're meeting at the 1st gravel carpark on Lascelles Parade you're missing half the fun! Start further up the road, right near the Top of Gooseberryhill road. It's a fun long run, not too slow not too fast (top speed 65ks, said the follow car today), you can hold the speed through into the first sharp left hairpin of the zigzag.

@cath, purely a typo, fully aware of multiple female shredders.

Hi guys and girl,

Please take a moment to read this little headsup.

It's great to see this sport growing in Perth. Because of this growth hills and areas that didn’t used to be skated are now being skated...hills and areas that used to have one person ridding them now have a group ridding them, or numerous group ridding them. Our presence on the roads is alot higher than it used to be. The number of cars/people/police we are in contact with is higher. And it only takes one accident, or one skater to be a punkass to any of the people we encounter to ruin a spot for everyone.

I make a point of being friendly and open to the people i pass when im skating in my hood. They’re cool with me, im cool with them. No-one calls the cops, everyone’s happy. It takes one punkass to come to my hood and send his board into someones rendered wall, or to abuse a car, or to shoot through a stop sign, or to ride on the wrong side of the road, for those people i was cool with to call the cops next time they see me out riding.

Lots of us love the zigzag but we’re starting to get complaints. Please be courteous to the other road users, use a spotter on the blind corners (esp at the end of the zigzag where you turn left to bomb) ride on the right (left) side of the road etc. Im looking at getting the zigzag closed to cars, perhaps every second Saturday morning. Locals think it’s a good idea, so do i. Would be rad. Thoughts?

Also thinking of making a “Caution longboarders” (or something like that) sign to stash in the bushes at the top of the zigzag. Whenever anyones riding just put it up, easy.

This is going to take some maturity. The guys that have been around while know all this stuff, but with so many groms coming up now it’s more important than ever not to forget that what we do on the roads doesn’t just affect us, it affects EVERYONE ELSE that also skates that road, don’t be the one that ruins it.

Smile
