fsu makes some decks with it.
yes i know boards have kevlar/cf mix
but by its self.
would it flex to much?
Kayaks, the missus is after one of those...
You could make a 100% kevlar board, and make it as stiff as you want by adding layers till you were happy. This would be crazy expensive though, as you'd need 7 "average" weight layers to make a layup about as thick as a single ply from a wood deck.
A better way is to use two thin layers seperated by a non structural material (PVC foam, end-grain balsa wood, etc.) like Landyatchz do with their carbon kevlar Evos. The composites take all the load, the bit in the middle esentially takes none. The thicker the foam or whatever, the stiffer the layup.
thanks mate

In my experience. Kevlar is a bitch to work with.
I had alot of trouble getting a clean cut to the edge. You can't just sand the edge smooth. It has a tendancy to resist cutting leaving a furry edge which needs to be trimmed with a blade. Trimming with blade is tricky too because its knife resistant aswell.
Great strength qualitys and pretty colours but not woth the extra cost in my opinion. If you're paying that much just go with carbon.
Kevlar is abrasive and wear resistant. I'd kill anyone who did a boardslide on any of my creations!
I have a nice piece of sweet looking carbon/kevlar weave in black and gold stored somewhere in my garage for a special project at about $170 a metre...probably overkill for skateboard useage but would look rad with a nice clear coat...oneday!
yeah i was thinking about just laying and epoxying about 10 sheets of kevlar onto a mould and jig sawing out the shape, i know it would be expensive but can u imagine how light that would be....
mhm i thought kevlar was pretty strong?
its the stuff they use in bullet proof vests isn it?
oh well still be fun to try =)

my boat was made with part kevlar, was pretty cool being able to tell people your rowing boats bulletproof. doubt it was though:P

haha you would be lol, being able to claim that i had shot anything i had made with it surviving would make me proud lol

well, i have shot my kayak with a 22 rifle (only to test a theory) the thing was f...ed anyway. and there wasn't even a dent. so i was proud of the boat i made. :P
bahahaha! bulletproof boat! NICE! WAIT A MINUTE!

KEVLAR! ABRASION RESISTANT! WHAT IF YOU WERE TO MAKE SOME KEVLAR SOLES!? for some shoes?

would it be worth the cost? because you don't have much extra in the way of depth on your shoes, so it's like there's nothing there, but it doesn't trash your shoes?

also, on a sidenote (sorry to stray from the topic...again) i was just wondering, would turps or metho be ok as a bearing cleaner? or should i just try and find some engine degreaser (i'm sure dad will have some somewhere)
