exploding bearings
so in the last month i have managed to explode 3 bearings all being speed demon abec 5, was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with these as its a bit of a worry, one melted the core of my wheel and shredded my axle

bearings normally seize not explode. Unless a flame is lighting up your speed oil. You are not doing this to board are you...

I was just carving down my street back from school when one of my brand new bones reds shatterd and my wheel when flying off, and i looked down to se ball bearing every where and bearing case ripped apart. The actuall out side of the bearing was still in the wheel.....didnt think it could happen

yeah i shattered a bearing doing a stand up slide on my mates shortboard with standard skate wheels. i guess the side load bent the inner race and sent the shield and balls out all over the driveway. seized the wheel pretty badly so i would hate to see it happen to someone mid drift. maybe you cranked the axle nut down too tight to begin with?

i threw a wheel on apollo rd doing about 70, don't know if i seized or it was just the wheel being crap, they were those really soft avilas, so soft you can squeeze the core, so i may have just ripped it off as it was just after a tight left hander.
make sure your bearings are clean and lubricated, if you're using an oil, you need to keep on top of it, the thinner the oil the faster you go but the quicker it evaporates, bearings heat up when not lubricated.
also if you're sliding a lot this can damage your bearings causing them to seize.
sliding= fun as, but is the worst thing for bearings.

i use spacers, i think mark from adelaide has a pic of one of em, i use 85mm siesmics as a freeride wheel and i thrash em pretty hard but three in one month is a bit drastic
