anti/non slip tape substitute for griptape?

So i was just wondering if anyone uses those non-slip tapes you get in hardware stores that ppl usually use on metal/wooden flooring as griptape, something like this:

isn't just basically the same stuff?

same as your average griptape i suppose, but these days the grittier stuff is much more suitable for longboarding.

yeah i know but hopkin is out of stock of edgar and sk8king tape, so i was hoping i could find an alternative with this stuff, hopefully there are really gritty ones.
well you know what you should do, you should buy it and let us all know how it went... ive seen people use that stuff before but ive never tried it myself
Or you can use the original griptape; sandpaper. Nice and cheap, but you have to glue it on.
What about Jessup tape? Or do you just dig those brands?
Its not really the same, but I've used the grip sand they use on those little yellow strips on concrete steps and it was really effective. Im sure the tape wouldnt be too different.
i'll head to my hardware store, or bunnings if they don't have a good selection to get some today, will tell you guys how it goes
Hi Gilbert,
Maybe have a look at some marine anti slip tape.
Try either Whitworths or Discount Seamart, both in Elizabeth st, east side, btwn Victoria and Queensberry.

cool, thanks wayne, plus its bloody close to my place. have you used it before?
Hi Gilbert,
No i havnt tried it, looked at it a few times tho, but no slip is no slip and you'll be able to ride in the rain without
it peeling off. (where were you and Ching when we rode Jells park in the rain?)
Prob be a bit expensive to cover a whole deck but if your just doin a pattern it might be ok.

yeap, went to get it today, its a little grittier than jessup, but its definitely no edgar replacement, just slapped it on where i would put my feet on my deck, took it out for a spin, it definitely grips better than jessup so im happy with that.

haha, we woke up late that day when you guys were going to jells, and the weather didn't look promising so we decided not to go.
