Event Description

The Maryhill Festival of Speed has been moved to the first week of July and will now kick off the 2010 season. Our hope is that this new date will help those who are in school to have an easier time attending the event. Maryhill is famous for it’s incredible sweeping turns and perfect pavement. For the last two years it’s had the most competitors of any IGSA race. 166 downhill skateboarders raced in 2009. The event will also begin 10 days after the Vernon DH North American Championships so those who are traveling from overseas will have the opportunity to attend both races.

ok, here is the deal: if you are going to attend maryhill then you better not fuck this trip up. YOU MUST SK8 a couple of other things while you are in north america.
FIRST: fly to LA instead of somewhere closer to maryhill, then SKATE GMR (glendora mountain road). it is cheaper to fly to LA than anywhere else in the country and GMR is like maryhill but about 1000 times better. similar enough to maryhill to provide an EXCELLENT training ground, except it is about 5 times as long so in one days riding you get about 5 times as much skating, GMR is the kind of road where you push your tuck/legs endurance. you will need this for maryhill because if you turn up there with virgin legs you are fucked. flying out of LA to anywhere in the states costs under 100 dollars (for me to get back to vancouver i get to stop in LA and San fransisco and seattle then bus over the border to canada and this saves me about 300 dollars because of stupid canadian taxes on flights). just get onto NCDSA and COASTLONGBOARDING and bug the locals, you will easily find somewhere to stay for a night, i think its about a one hour drive from the airport but skaters in LA are super awesome and might even come pick you up just for a days skating then drive you back to the airport the next day to fly out (if you plan this now and give them hella notice).
SECOND: fly from LA to either VANCOUVER canada (home of coastlongboarding), or PORTLAND oregon (check out ZOOBOMB or BURNSIDE on youtube), use COASTLONGBOARDING to arrange rides to maryhill from there instead of flying to the airport nearest maryhill because it is in the middle of butt-fuck-nowhere. there is NO reason to hang out around maryhill before or after the race. there will be TONS of people driving down from vancouver and lots from portland as well, GO SKATE ONE OF THESE CITYS THEN HITCH A RIDE!!!
THIRD: after maryhill come to VANCOUVER CANADA, if you need some explanation of why just ask adam yates, jacko, or go on coastlongboarding.com and ask the people there. canadians love longboarders and butt borders and pretty much everybody, we are so polite that we apologize to lamp posts when we run into them, and we skate the gnar like no-one else. vancouver has races happening around it ALL THE TIME over our summer, take advantage of this if you are going to be in North america anyways! dont be a fucking idiot and just go for maryhill!!!!!!!
if anyone is serious about going, ask me, and i will give you contacts to add on facebook for this kind of journey. it would be FUCKING AWESOME if more aussies came to skate (a million of you come to snowboard all the time FUCK!)
