Usain Bolt set a new 100m world record yesterday: 9.58 sec. That's an average speed of 37.6km/h over the 100 metres.

He starts at 0km/h, and sprinters always slow down over the last 20 metres, so his top speed must be over 40km/h.

At what speed is it possible to run off a skateboard?

Crazy Dan did what could have been a 60km/h run out on a hill in the back of Anandale and held it. a crew of about 8 of us has gone for a skate from my mates house, we met dan half way at glebe and I carried a board for him. because I had to carry a board for 3kms i took him a cruising pool deck while the rest of us had longboards. on the way beck we hit this hill, its about a km long and ends just after my mates house.

We all charged down this hill in a big pack and when everybody hit the last corner we all did an extreme footbrake at the end of it due to the last 200m having about a %20 grade of rough road. We all new where we were except Dan who was in foreign territory. I shit you not it was like the scene form The Man From Snowy River, we all pulled up right at the beginning of a cliff drop, accept Dan who split us all down the middle and charged over the edge while not knowing what was ahead (the only person without pads or helmet). We all just stood there saying he's faarking goooone. He went past the critical speed very quickly and got into a very high position. We though there is no way he can run this out, we are heading to the hospital for sure.

While not actually hitting the ground, He jumped into the biggest set of goose steps I have ever seen. He seemed to achieve pressure rates similar to the core of the sun and completely ripped the front off both skate shoes until both feet were exposed, he completely blackened both big toes and ended up with pressure bruising on his chest near his shoulders. To this day I have never seen somebody get so close to the pits of hell and not fall in. Simply the most awesome thing I have ever seen.

There is no need to test this system out... Dan has already done it, it is possible but its like winning the lottery if you pull it off and you've got a 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000 chance of doing that
that is a sensational story and sooo well told....Dan you are a legend
That was an epic story Robbro. Funny stuff.

Where has Crazy Dan been hiding? I see his red leathers from time to time, but no Crazy Dan...
I was going to put up a video of a run out but after Robbo's crazy dan story..... I have nothing
You gotta hate how when you try running it out your feet slap so hard against the ground to the point of painfull pins and needles.
Early days before learning how to stop i kicked myself in the side of the head with my foot jumping off at around 20 something ks.It was like what the hell just kicked me.not sure how it got there but your body does strange things in situations. No torn shoes thats hard core
Could we make this into a legit event with speed camera, judges and hordes of onlookers pissing themself laughing?!
dude, never mind newtons, make it on inverness road down here. the hill is insane. The part that looks FLAT is like 8% or something. First time i got taken up there, i was standing near the top of the hairpin going "yeah...this doesn't look too bad, plenty of flatness to break afterwards...put my board down on the flat, jumped onto it and was doing close to 20 almost immediately.

However, i would SO come to watch a bunch of people trying to run it out...we could make it a charity event...like...for a spinal disease or something?
when i started skating i use to wind break using my jacket then just jump before the hill got gnarly.I reckon i have run off at atleast a good 30 plus cause i have never moved my legs so fast, not any more tho stopped after i ate the road.
What you're not meant to do the big run off everytime you skate? wish someone had told me sooner. Over the years I'm on my way to perfecting the small step run and sliding superman; only really possible now with the aid of glove pucks. I have found if I push myself up with my arms while sliding I pick up a bit of speed as the chest part of my body armour removes some of the friction. Have to work on the initial landing though still nursing rib problems from the last one.
Crusty demons pah nothing on small step run supermen >:0)
Fun thread! Mine would b maybe 25kph i just started skating on a main road freaked out jumped of an began to fall. But when i was younger (im 23) i was trained by bruce lee himself and did a formation called the thai suit slide. To do it u must ware a suit jacket u get from thailand, slide on ur left shoulder and roll back onto ur feet at a more manageable speed to run out at. SUCCESS!
..... but in a suit
