Yes, you read it right, here in Oz the #2 of 10 preproduction Wefunk Stealth Division boards complete with the Stealth Division precision trucks (soon to be available seperately) and your choice of wheels and bearings. This board can be yours for a mere $6,250.00 (normally US$8,000.00).

This is your chance to own a piece of skateboarding history.  http://www.cre8ivesk8.com.au/default.asp?PageID=54&CatID=94&...

What you're saying Robbo is quiet right when you talk about the basic "bread and butter" boards that retailers rely on to successfully run a business, ie, it's cheaper to play with design and construction on the lower end of the market, where a stuff up may cost $200.00 as opposed to $2,000.00.

There are some brilliant carbon skateboard manufacturers here in Oz, making beautiful looking/performing boards which retailers will carry.....they are the high-end of the regular marketplace. However, none of these manufacturers could afford to spend 20 to 24 hrs on building a single deck, because their target market isn't the same as Alex's, their target market is the other 90% of the market place.

As Alex says, this model is not targeted at the standard market....."Now we have ONE model that is strictly limited and targeted at people who can easily afford it. It just got shot by Kenji Aoki for AmEx Blackcard Magazine (targeted at people who do have a lot of money)"

Lotus is an iconic, expensive car, in it's day.......yet Lotus are responsible for many components which went into the Ford Escorts.......High End---Low End market places forming a symbiotic alligance......to create a shitload of fun.

No sure thats correct, carbon and foamcore has already been done well before this. Its not like formula 1, innovation has already happened and continues to happen at the normal end of the price spectrum. Unlike a Ferrari this board will not perform 20 times better that a normal high end wood or composite board. Its more like a watch where a $200 watch and an $8000 watch tell the same time, its just the $8000 one has hand made movement. It becomes a 1% game, I sure this deck has amazing flex and torsion characteristics as everything Alex does, but it adds miniscule comparative improvement  for an explosion in cost

If you read Alex's explanation he indicates that the price has nothing to do with the cost of goods and labor, it relates to what he can convince somebody to buy it for and covers the cost of everything else he has done like making boards for team riders for free rather than the cost of making the board. Most boardmakers take a different root by using the boards they make for free for teams riders to promote volume demand in shop orders therefor recovering R&D cost.

Fitz beat me to it...

It's the Veyron.

If things like this weren't done, we'd still be on Surfer Sam's...

Great marketing tool. A $6000 deck will draw alot of interest to the brand even if it doesn't sell.

Its not about carbon fibre construction or time taken to build it or even its price.....its has to be way more than all those things.

Consider this....

Enamel number plates for cars do exactly the same thing as an ordinary standard issue $25 plate....or do they.

When the car park is full of the latest top of their class imported cars the enamel plated cars stand out as being the cars that no one else can afford, or are the cars that are not being leased, and identifies the owners as having "made it".  Enamel plated cars are also the cars that the EPA has the most problems with in the way they create a dense pall of smug!

For a skatey to be able to do the same thing as an enamel plated 7series BMW, a titanium colnago, a limited edition rolex, or your very own jet is fantastic.....

That is exactly the board that you will need to run in the Tour De France

Imagine bombing the best hills just in front of the Peleton, warm in the knowledge that the Chef de Cours will be ready with an EFTPOS machine to happily swipe your Black Amex at the bottom of the run, and politely ask the gendarmes to clear the paparatzi out of your path of your Lambo, for the run to the next hill.

Makes ya just want one!

Ist class trip to France....$100,000

1 week Lambo Rental.......$20,000

Wefunk skatey $6,250

Snaking peleton in Tour de France.....PRICELESS!

lets all go and bomb it naked... every sport needs streakers

pretty nifty thinking Mr Alex if you ask me! i think hes a genius...

Creating such a nice board, weather or not its 'better' than the regular skateboard, and then be able to actually target rich people market with a SKATEBOARD and using just singular sales to help fund the production of more boards to give to his mates and team riders? bloody brilliant if you ask me. dudes making hella bank. $6000 for one board? so much profit... i guess if some dude is willing to pay that much money, and hes actually selling the things then holy shit this dude is killing it...

who cares about how the board isnt better than normal, Alex is gettin' er done regardless if you like the board or not!

hats off to you sir!

Thanks. (for the props and for taking the time to consider the reasons why I do this).

Of course some skaters might be pissed because they would want one but can´t get it.

Well, don´t we all need something to dream about that we can´t have?

I think all is said here (at least from my side).

Right now I need to focus on selling/marketing my "mass" produced decks. (Made in Europe now btw.)

And as you can see there is a double V-Lam / double crossply core wood/glass MACH1 on the right.
It´s of course heavier than the MACH1 Concept but rock solid and stiff like a slab of granite.

It sells for € 199 here in Europe and $229 in the US. (and all boards left of it are cheaper)

Yes, I do have skateboards for skaters.

I agree with what you're saying, Robbo.

It's still a skateboard. Materials aren't new. What he is actually doing with them compared to the current crop, i have no idea. The watch analogy is a good one.

As Alex says, this is a concept. His concept.

That was my point, I guess. Today's concept, tomorrow's daily ride.

Sakamoto put it better...

"...High End---Low End market places forming a symbiotic alligance..."

Just like my Ferarri, I'm going to buy one .....then I'll smash it into a tree. :)

Nice board Alex. Ive always loved your work!

Yeah, forgot to add  that it sure as hell looks the goods!

It is the formula 1 of downhill. If I get one, no haters are gonna ride it.
hahahaha

Matty, it is the most amazing thing to stand on, feels unlike any board I have ever ridden (including other Wefunks) was considering getting a loan to buy it then charging $100 a half hour to ride it at BtB each year (;-)> Reckon I'd get my investment back?????
