ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Seems theres a bit of interest in these so if you want one for your board i can make one. Just need a template of the nose section (paper, wood) It is better to have the deck to get it perfect.

OK HERES HOW IT WORKS, You send me a paper template, Youll need a peice about 200 x 200. Take the front truck off your board and place paper, or perefably light carboard under the nose and past the truck holes. Trace it, Truck cutout and holes, and make sure its correct cause i will use that as the actuall template by glueing it to my Alum base plate (then i will weld the actuall guard to that) I will also need to know the thickness of your deck, most important..

It is better if i can get your deck or the actuall model deck to make it with, so for those in the Shire im in Caringbah, you can drop it off.

Post the template to:

Thanks bro, glad your board is unmarked,, its a wicked peice of  carbon! Yer I will be making all guard from now on out of steel!!!. Be sure to either paint them or clear coat them as they will rust up,

if I had more time I would have sent them to the powdercoaters for u.

So I got my board back today and these are my thoughts:

First Impressions - When I dropped my board off last week to Col, I found him easy to talk to and describe what I wanted done. All in all, I got the impression this was a good guy and had no hesitation leaving my board in his care

Appearance - The guards are extremely attractive in RAW finish and are made to fit around the nose perfectly (no un-even gaps). The guards are also bottom mounted, which ALWAYS looks better than top mounted ones (such as the Bombsquad alternative).

Construction - Being that my Carbon Matrix is my pride and joy, the biggest fear on my mind was always how the guards would hold up in a decent impact, well, today I found out.. I was working on holding out my Colemans longer on this one hill near home which has those curved gutters, so it wouldn't have really mattered if I lost the board. The only real hazard is a storm water drain at the bottom where the hill levels out and goes back up. Well, I slipped off the board at a decent speed and, can you believe it, the Matrix speared nose first into the drain and smashed into the concrete on the other side of it. I was mortified looking at my board sticking out of the drain at a 45* angle. I walked over expecting to see my new guards bent to sh!t and my board damaged. I carefully removed it.. NO DAMAGE!!!! the guard wasn't even scratched or even slightly bent. The board was still perfect due to the rubber between the guard and the board acting as a shock absorber and distributing the force evenly.

Customer Service - Col and I agreed on Friday as the pick up day and, as promised, I received a message in the morning letting me know that my guards and board were ready to be collected. I was kept well informed and given honest replies.

Conclusion - Don't bother wasting your money on those fugly top-mounted Bombsquad guards that take forever to arrive and are actually more expensive. If you want to protect your sh!t, Col's your man. This is the first time I've bought home-grown and I will again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Some pics of the guards:

Thanks again Col :)

Seriously need one or two

Trav, tryn get someone with the same board as yourz in NSW who wants guards to and get them to drop it to me,,,,,easy!

I have tried to make a universial guard but it is to much of a compromise, with so many decks out there each guard is very different in design.

True, and how much are they ?

All good on the powder coating Col, I'll sort it out and thanks, I love CF :D. I saw Robbo enquired about getting these in bulk for HopShop but I understand why you prolly didn't go down that road. I too am a perfectionist and would rather custom make as apposed to generic as you are proud of your work. I will say though, that due to the Carbon decks being made in moulds, they SHOULD be very close to identical. So why not make up some Matrix guards? I am more than happy to do the ground work and get your work out there among the other skate shops as well. There are a few Matrix's ripping around Australia and it would be great if they were easily accessible to all. Just a thought mate.

Travis: Guards are $50 for a pair, however you'd have to check with Col on postage seeings how you're interstate

True, I'm guessing like 50$ or so
