ASRA - Australian Skateboard Racing Association

Hey i am wanting to start some photography and was wondering what the a good camera would be and lense. I am wanting to take some seriours photos so probs a SLR optic lense or something. also i do have a head mout for vid so no need for GoPro.

If you have any tips or suggestions then please comment.

I am looking for something around 0-1000 but if you could keep it under 500 that would be great.

Thanks for the help and if you live near the city (melbourne) or on the  Hurstbridge line then maybe we could have a sesh? (i do actually longboard)

P.S. any tips for editing software  and techniques would go a long way (focus and lighting)

Once again thanks for the help and hopefully i might post some pics up soon.

great setup i have the 430 is an awesome flash and the sigma lens is a good basic bit of glass, i highly recommend getting a 50mm prime, for 100 or so bucks its one of the best buys going and can take some amazing shots with it and is highly versatile it also gives you a bit more scope for low light shooting as well and is great for portraits

sweet i will look into it

get a tamron, sigma has quality control issues, and its best if you get one with a constant apeture

550d is a great camera for what it is. mine has copped some serious use over the last 18 months and only recently have i replaced it with a higher model.

Lens will be pretty versatile, but what kind of shots are you wanting to get? Remember, 50mm isnt all that long!

being that its your first camera, i would recommend somthing a bit more versatile. I had a 18-135 that gave alot more on the long end, so have a think about that!

ash i was suggesting the 50 cos its a mid size lens that is affordable for a prime, i shoot about 60% of all my stuff video and stills on my 50mm

Sorry should have clarified, i was talking about what he was thinking for the zoom.

as for the nifty fifty, you cant go wrong getting one, i have one, and its super sharp! but the focus motor is absolutely terrible, so dont count on using it to try and track action (well wide open anyway!)

@Sean

Zeiss is Sony now.

yeah there arent anymore new zeiss lenses coming out anymore lately, and the ones that do, are sony/ziess collabos that are part of sonys zeiss range

zeiss is owned by sony how ever they still make their own optics that fit canon gear, http://lenses.zeiss.com/photo/en_DE/products/slr/distagont2815.html and they are amazingly good, compared to canon L series Lens's they are not too bad on a price point but your still looking at a fair bit of cash for one
